Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday December 5th 2002
"Hi Nicole," Clark said as his wife walked into the townhouse where they lived and worked in Greenwich Village.
"Hi Clark. Sorry I ran out like that.  I just get claustrophobia sometimes," she said referring to the fact she left angry after hearing that her secret lover Skeeter was marrying Jan Morgan.  She had gone to Skeeter's apartment to confront him.  Skeeter's wife and Clark's secretary Tiffany had called to talk to Skeeter while she was there. Nicole had listened to both sides of the conversation when Skeeter's new answering machine came on and he couldn't figure out how to turn it off.  Tiffany angrily told Skeeter she was going to tell Clark that Nicole was secretly seeing Greg, the young man next door. She knew Tiffany didn't have anything to lose since Clark had fired her at Nicole's previous request.
"I was so worried Nicki honey," Clark said walking towards her and putting his hands on her shoulders as he looked into her eyes.
"I'm sorry honey."
"Where did you go?"
"Oh, just walking around awhile," she lied thinking about the fact that Tiffany had called just as she and Skeeter were about to share a few minutes of intimacy.
"I called and canceled our dinner reservation. Do you want me to call and see if we can still get in at Tavern on the Green?" he asked noticing that her lipstick was smeared slightly.
"No. I'm not that hungry anyway. Why don't we just go to Babbo later," she said referring to the Italian Restaurant around the corner.
"Okay.  Nicki are you okay?  Please don't storm out like that again honey.  I was so worried."
"You really didn't need to worry."
"Well, I was. I made some decisions while you were gone," he said as he watched her take off her jacket and toss it on the sofa nearby.
"I fired Tiffany," he said proud of his decision.
"No!" she said hoping to look surprised. She had overheard Tiffany on the phone at Skeeter's that Clark had fired her. She wasn't concerned until Tiffany threatened to tell Clark about her secret affair with Greg, the boy next door.
"Yes. Finally after four years I put my foot down," Clark said pushing his shoulders back with authority.
"Oh Clark you shouldn't have done that," she said shaking her head.
"Why?  I know you don't like her."
"I was starting to really like her more than I had told you."
"We don't need her Nicki. You can do her job easily."
"What?  You mean sit at that desk all day answering the phone and sending out invitations," she said pointing to Tiffany's desk across the living room. "I don't think so... No!" she said turning and walking towards the window of the townhouse hoping to avoid his eyes.
"But Nicki.  You know money is tight.  I'll save a lot not having to pay her salary."
"I don't care about the money," she said turning to glance at him.
"But it's tight right now.  Don't you want me to find an office for us?"
"An office would be great.  But if you think I'm going to be Suzy Secretary you're crazy Clark Masters."
"Well, it's too late.  I've already fired her now."
"Well, call her up and tell her you unfired her Clark."
