Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday November 19th 2002 Tiffany sat at the desk looking at the huge, sparkling diamond ring on Jan's finger as she talked with Clark. She couldn't help but notice that Jan seemed to be attempting some pretense of humility. A humble demeanor was not something that Jan had ever assumed before and somehow it didn't seem to fit her usually arrogant personality. "Okay. I have to confess that since Nicole and I got married, I have been so involved with my life and work that I've neglected you. But I can see that you must have been well taken care of all of these months. So who is the lucky fellow?" Clark asked. "Well, maybe we should go to lunch and I could tell you then," Jan said glancing back towards Tiffany. "Oh come on. We really want to know," Clark said still stunned by the news and the size of the diamond on her finger. "Well, okay. I hope this won't upset you too much Tiffany," Jan said glancing towards Tiffany pretending to portray a look of sympathy. "No. Of course not, I'm happy for you," Tiffany said knowing her boss would expect this kind of statement from her since he had warned her about any friction with his client Jan over the years. "Oh, this is really a little difficult for me..." Jan said glancing from Tiffany to Clark. "Come on! You just got engaged. People will be happy for you," Clark said taking her hand in his and admiring the ring again. "Skeeter and I are engaged to be married," Jan said quickly glancing towards Tiffany. Clark inadvertently dropped Jan's hand and turned to look at his secretary Tiffany. He watched as her shoulders slumped and her mouth dropped open. "I knew this would be a surprise. That's why I wanted to tell you first before it's in the newspapers and all over the television stations," Jan said starting to enjoy her new role. "Skeeter? You mean my husband?" Tiffany said barely able to get the words out. "Yes, your estranged husband." "Maybe I should let the two of you talk a while. I have to go upstairs and call Mrs. McAdams about the party before we go out to lunch anyway," Clark said turning to walk towards the stairs. "That's a good idea. I'm sure it will take Tiffany a little time to get used to this," Jan said smiling slightly. "I'll be right back. This won't take but a minute," Clark said rushing up the stairs. "Well, Tiffany I can see you are shocked," Jan said as soon as she saw Clark was out of sight. "Shocked... yes I'm shocked," Tiffany said hoping Jan wouldn't notice the tears in her eyes. "I wanted you to know first. Skeeter and I discussed it last night and thought it was best you heard about it from me," Jan said taking a seat on the sofa and picking up a copy of "Millennium Bride" magazine from the coffee table. "What about the fact that I haven't signed the divorce papers yet Jan? Did you and my husband discuss that little detail?" Tiffany said her voice shaking with anger and hurt. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
