Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday November 11th 2002
"Well what do you think Skeeter?  Why don't we go out to dinner?  Then we'll stop by my friends house, he's a wonderful jeweler," Jan said smiling broadly.
"Isn't this kinda sudden?" Skeeter asked glancing down at his wristwatch and noticing it was almost time for Trisha to get off work and stop by his apartment. It would be his first time to get Trisha alone and he could see by the look in her eyes, she would succumb.
"Sudden?  You call years sudden? Skeeter we've been sneaking around with each other for a long time," she said getting up from his futon sofa and walking across the living room of his Bleecker Street apartment.  She glanced down as a young girl with bright pink hair opened the door to the nightclub below Skeeter's window.
"Yeah, but that's because you didn't want anyone to know. You were always worried about your Father."
"Let's not overlook the issue with your wife Tiffany, which you have promised to handle. So don't worry about my Father. Once I'm married I'll get all of his money."
"Are you sure about that?"  he asked picking up his beer can from the coffee table and taking a long sip of the warm beer.
"Yes.  I've done some snooping into my Father's papers."
"You're sure of this?" he asked wondering if he should call Trisha and tell her something came up. Maybe he could bring her over for lunch in the apartment tomorrow while Jan would be at work.
"Of course."
"What makes you think your Father would approve of me?"
"I don't approve of who he's marrying either," she said referring to her Father's young girlfriend and Skeeter's ex-sister-in-law.
"Starlene's a nice girl. Do you want to get married just to spite your old man? Is that what this is all about Jan?"
"No.  What kind of person do you think I am? It's yes or no."
"This sounds more like a business deal than an engagement."
"Everything's a deal in life Skeeter.  Don't you know that by now?  My Father's marrying Starlene and it's a deal for both of them."
"Oh.  What's the deal?"
"Starlene gets to marry a man with money, because she'll certainly never make any herself."
"And your old man?"
"He won't say for sure, but I think he's marrying her for cover."
"Cover?"
"Yeah, my father has always been a player.  Maybe he's played a little too hard lately and getting married will make it look like he's out of the game."
"What are you talking about?"
"I think Nicole's Father is still a problem for my Father," she said referring to Nicole's mob boss father.
"Oh.  I see.  Did he say that?"
"No."
"Well, maybe you're just reading into this.  Maybe you're reading into all of it.  Maybe your old man isn't going to hand over the money just because you get married either."
"The thing with Nicole's Father is an educated guess.  I'm reading into the money, alright... read that on my father's papers just last week.  So do you want to marry me or not?"
