Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday November 6th 2002
Jan rang the doorbell repeatedly as she opened her purse to look for her key to her Father's mansion.
"Miss Jan," the housekeeper said opening the door and smiling.
"Is my Father home?"
"Yes, he in study," the housekeeper said in her broken English.
"Good," Jan said taking off her full-length mink coat and tossing it on the chair beside the door as she walked into her Father's East Side mansion.
"You want that I make you coffee or tea?" the housekeeper asked watching Jan walk towards her Father's study.
"Yes, bring me a cup of tea," she said never looking at the aging housekeeper but walking quickly down the hall towards her Father's office where the door was closed.  She never knocked but quickly opened the door finding him at his desk reading the New York Times.
"I'm glad you're still here," she said walking into the office leaving the door open behind her.
"What a surprise. I thought you'd be on your way to Boston this morning for the meeting."'
"I canceled it."
"Oh," he said putting the newspaper on his desk and turning to watch his daughter.
"I thought you had an important meeting there with a potential client."
"I said I canceled it Father.  What don't you understand about that?"
"Nothing.  What brings you here?" he said ignoring her impatience.
"Don't you think you could at least tell me first?" she said pacing in front of his desk.
"Tell you first?  If I knew what it is that you are so upset over then maybe I would.  Have a seat Jan," he said pointing to a nearby chair.
"I don't need a seat.  I need a Father that's honest with me."
"What's the matter?"
"Starlene. I hear that you're going to marry this bimbo," she said stopping to glare at her Father.
"Oh that," he said smiling slightly.
"Yes, that.  She's telling everyone that you said you are marrying her."
"Who did she tell?"
"She came by Clark's office and told Tiffany."
"Tiffany is her sister for God's sake."
"Clark came in and she told him."
"Oh.  Was Nicole with him?"
"Why Father?" she asked wondering if he was still involved with Nicole after she had just married Clark.
"Was she?  Just curious how many people know."
"No.  Nicole wasn't with him. Why?"
"Just curious. Nothing" he said wondering how Nicole would take the news.
"You mean there is some truth to this ridiculous rumor this bimbo is starting?"
"Oh I don't know."
"Well, did you set a date to marry her?"
"She's just pressuring me some. I told her that we probably will get married."
"Are you crazy?  Have you completely lost your mind?"
"I have a right," he said his face starting to get red with anger.
"A right?  A right to lose all of your money.  Do I need to have you examined?  Are you competent to take care of yourself Father?" Jan said pounding his desk with her fist.
"I have a right to marry anyone I want to."
"Why? Why would you marry her?"
"Maybe I feel that I have to," he said as the housekeeper walked in the door to his study carrying a silver tea service.
"What? Have to marry her?  What?" Jan asked annoyed glancing towards the nervous housekeeper and the rattling teapot on her tray.
