Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday November 4th 2002 "Would you like another bottle of wine sir?" the waiter asked Stanley. "Yes, please," Stanley said dipping a small piece of bread into the herbed Olive oil on the table of the Italian Restaurant in Little Italy. "Do you like my new dress?" Starlene asked pushing her shoulders forward to show off her cleavage in the low cut dress she was wearing. "Yes, honey that looks great," Stanley said smiling but avoiding her eyes. "What's the matter Stanley? You haven't hardly looked at me tonight," Starlene asked in her southern accent. "Just got a lot on my mind that's all." "Tiffany told me you went by her office today." "Yeah, I saw the report on Amir and his missing wife on TV. I knew Tiffany would want to see it so I rushed back…well, I rushed there to tell her," he said hoping she hadn't noticed the slip. He'd been at Tiffany's office visiting with Clark's new bride Nicole just before Clark came home from Florida. He knew Starlene would be furious if she knew he'd visited with Nicole. Starlene had caught him on the sofa of his office with Nicole before she married Clark and had never stopped mentioning the indiscretion. "You sure you didn't go by to see Nicole while Clark was in Florida?" Starlene asked her eyes narrowing as she watched for his response. "No honey. I just thought Tiffany should see the report on Amir's wife, that's all," he lied. He'd hoped to smooth things over with Nicole after a heated argument. He was uncomfortable that she had insinuated she would tell her Father about their relationship. The last thing he needed was her Mafia Father angry with him once again. "I don't trust her Stanley." "I don't know why you keep bringing her up." "Because I caught you with her." "It didn't mean anything," he said taking a sip of his wine. "You were doin' it Stanley," she said in an angry whisper. "It was a long time ago." "Less than a year." "She's married now." "She would cheat too. Tiffany says Nicole flirts openly with every man that comes into the office when Clark isn't around." "Is that right?" Stanley asked glancing towards her to see if she was exaggerating. "That's right. Being married doesn't stop her Stanley." "Well, she's not my problem now," he said wishing that were the truth. "I hate her. I don't want you to ever go in that office again Stanley. Never, ever. Do you hear me?" "That's unreasonable, I have business to conduct there." "Then I'll go with you when you have to go there." "Oh come on Starlene." "I mean it. I don't trust her." "You trust me don't you?" "No. I would if we were married," she said raising her eyebrows. "Well, maybe one day honey. But you need to trust me before we can get married." "Have you ever thought about the fact that if you married me I would know you are committed to me, then I'd feel more comfortable and trust you more?" "No. I never thought of it that way." "I'm not going to wait much longer Stanley. I do have other men that are interested," she said smiling coyly as the waiter refilled her wineglass. "Oh yeah?" "Yeah. Stanley several of those men we met at that political fundraiser in Washington have called since you took me to the gala." "Oh yeah, which ones?" he asked thinking of several married men that had inquired about his relationship with Starlene after meeting her. "If you don't marry me you'll find out soon," she said taking a sip of her wine. "Is that a threat?" "It's a promise. Are you going to set the date or not?" CONTINUED TOMORROW.
