Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday October 16th 2002
"Stanley what is this?"  Starlene asked holding up the receipt from a NYC real estate company for a lease on an expensive apartment overlooking Fifth Avenue.
"What are you doing honey?" he asked glancing at the receipt for the down payment on the apartment.  He grimaced as he wondered if his memory was slipping.  He thought he'd hidden the receipt for the payment on the apartment he'd found for Nicole.
"Well, Stanley it was right here," she said pointing to the coaster and her after dinner drink on his desk.
"It's just an apartment I might be taking," he said walking towards the desk and glancing down at the receipt where Starlene had placed it.  He was relieved to see that Nicole hadn't signed the papers.  He realized this had been a very close call.
"Stanley why would you get an apartment on Fifth Avenue when you've got this mansion here."
"I just looked at it," he said avoiding her eyes as he unbuttoned his shirt.
"Looked at it.  You paid them eight thousand dollars in down payments," she said glancing down at the lease.
"Oh, yeah, that's right."
"Well, why did you get an apartment?"
"Starlene it's business.  You shouldn't be snooping around on my desk."
"Snooping around!  We're engaged Stanley Morgan.  I have a right to know if you sign a lease on an apartment. Don't I?"
"But I didn't sign it. Did I?" he asked wondering if Nicole's name was anywhere on the papers and Starlene might have seen it.
"No.  But why would you pay that much money on an apartment if you weren't going to sign the lease?"
"Come on over here honey we should enjoy the evening," he said taking a seat on the bed and patting the mattress for her to join him.
"No.  I want to know about this apartment."
"It's just a nice apartment I was thinking about taking."
"Why though?"
"So if I have guests come into town or something," he stumbled.
"Why wouldn't you just put them up in a hotel or something.  This is a very expensive apartment Stanley."
"Don't worry about it honey. Come on over here," he repeated touching the mattress hopefully.
"Who are you expecting to come to see you that needs a whole apartment?"
"Maybe it's a surprise," he said trying to think quickly of an excuse for the plush apartment.
"A surprise?" she said smiling and walking towards the bed.
"Yeah.  You don't have to know everything."
"Oh.  I see.  Well, can we go look at it so I can see if I like it?" she asked thinking it was for the two of them.
"No…  I mean no.  I don't know if I'll take it or not," he stumbled.
"Well, let me see it maybe I can help you decide. I'm good at this.  Oh Stanley.  Is this a place for us after we're married?" she asked taking a seat beside him on the bed.
"It could be," he said wondering if he could get his money back.
"Oh Stanley. I should never have doubted you," she said kissing him on the cheek.
