Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday October 2nd 2002
"One dozen roses for you, one for me, hope one day baby makes three," Tiffany said repeating what Clark had told her to have the florist put on the card to go with the three dozen roses he was ordering for Nicole.
"Yeah, do you like that?" he asked placing his briefcase on a nearby table in the living room.
"Does this mean that Nicole's pregnant?" Tiffany asked wondering if he already knew about the doctor's office calling Nicole with test results a few minutes ago.
"No. I can only wish.  She doesn't want to try to have children now. She says that she wants us to be married for at least a year before we try."
"Oh.  So you're sure that she isn't then?"
"Well, yeah I'm sure.  I just want to keep reminding her that I can't wait."
"I didn't know you wanted children so much Clark."
"You know I'd almost changed my mind after giving kids birthday parties, but I think Nicole would be a great mother don't you?" he asked.
"Oh sure," Tiffany lied remembering how Nicole had been obviously flirting with the next door neighbor this morning.
"I really wish I didn't have to go to Florida tomorrow and leave her," he said taking out his airline ticket and glancing at it.
"How long do you think you'll be gone?"
"Only a few days hopefully.  Do you think you and Nicole will be okay here?"
"Oh sure.  No problem," Tiffany said while going online with her computer to order the roses for Nicole.
"Good. I'm going upstairs to make a few calls," he said walking towards the stairs with his airline ticket.
Tiffany glanced up and saw that he was out of sight.  She quickly picked up the phone and dialed the number at her apartment across the street from Washington Square Park.
"Hello," Starlene answered picking up the remote to the TV with her spare hand and turning down the volume on the soap opera she was watching.
"Starlene.  I don't have but a minute but guess what?"
"What?"
"The doctor's office called with results of a pregnancy test that Nicole took.  Clark came in later and he just told me that he knows that Nicole isn't pregnant.  They aren't trying to have a baby for another year. Nicole left suddenly after getting the phone call and she seemed really nervous," Tiffany said taking a minute to catch her breath.
"You mean you think she's pregnant and it's not his?"
"Yes maybe.  And I would be willing to bet that she'd gone to talk with the Father right now," Tiffany said.
"Wow!  This is really something Tiffany.  Where did she say she was going?"
"She told me she was going to a business meeting and she told Clark she was going shopping.  But believe me she was in a big hurry to get out of here," Tiffany said in a whisper.
"You know I'm going to call Stanley right now.  If she's at his office then I'll know they have been seeing each other," Starlene said hoping to learn the truth and worried that she would find out something that would ruin her relationship with her wealthy older lover.
"Do me a favor Starlene?"
"What?  I have to get in touch with Stanley right away Tiffany."
"Call Skeeter's apartment and see if Nicole went there."
"You think it could be Skeeter's?"
"Yeah.  I think Nicole would be with whomever she suspects to be the Father right now.  I mean that is if the test was positive."
"We really don't know do we?"
"No, but she wouldn't be rushing out to see either one of them with her husband leaving tomorrow morning unless it was positive, don't you think?"
"I don't know.  But it does make sense to watch her now," Starlene said.
