Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday August 9th 2002 "I don't know. I don't know what to say. I know Amir still loves his wife Malena. But it's hard for him Starlene," Tiffany said gripping the phone in one hand and picking up the remote to the TV in the other to change the channels while she talked to her sister. "Well, this isn't a very fair situation for you Tiffany. I mean he says that his wife isn't happy and she shops all day buying jewelry and clothes to keep her busy, right?" "Yeah. But he's got plenty of money and he doesn't mind." "Yeah. But you're the other woman and you're working hard to make a living. That isn't fair," Starlene said pacing the hardwood floors of their apartment overlooking Washington Square Park as she held the tiny cell phone to her ear. "Look Starlene, his wife is missing. This isn't a time for me think about that." "I'm just saying that when they find her things should change. You should be shopping too." "Let's just hope they find her." "Why would you hope that? I mean maybe she'll never show up and you'll marry him." "Stop it Starlene. That would be the worst case. I mean if she doesn't show up then I'll always feel guilty that I was with her husband on his yacht the night she disappeared," Tiffany said as hot tears rolled down her cheek. "Oh. Stop it. You didn't know that would happen. Don't feel so bad. Besides no one knows that you were with him, right?" "You, Stanley, and the limo driver," Tiffany admitted sniffling. "Well, don' t worry." "I've got to go," Tiffany said glancing up as she heard the front door of the apartment open. "Okay. Call me later if you hear anything," Starlene said. "Skeeter what are you doing here?" Tiffany said. "Skeeter's there?" Starlene asked overhearing her sister remarks. "Yeah. Skeeter's here. I'll call you later," Tiffany said hanging up the phone. "Hey Baby, how you holdin' up?" He said in his slow southern accent. "I'm fine Skeeter. What are you doing here?" she asked as he closed the front door of the townhouse where she worked. She watched his familiar swagger as he walked towards her taking a seat in the chair in front of her desk. "I came to see ya. Aren't you happy to see me?" "Surprised might better describe my feelings." "I don't know why you'd be surprised to see me. I'm still your husband Tiffany. We're still married… legally," he said glancing towards the TV screen and seeing a picture of Amir's wife on the screen as the reporters rehashed the same news they had heard all morning. "I'm busy now Skeeter." "You're not busy. Clark's in Florida. Your lover money bags there..." he said pointing to the TV screen. "He won't be coming around anytime soon," he said smiling and shaking his head. "That's not funny. Why did you come over here Skeeter?" "To see you Baby. I thought that maybe you needed some company. I know this thing has to be worrying you. Did you know his wife?" "No. I didn't know Amir's wife." "Never met her?" "No Skeeter. I have to work it's time for you to leave," she said picking up her appointment book and turning the pages. "That's a fine way to treat me after I come over her to give you moral support." "You've never given me support of any type Skeeter Diamond." "Then go this alone Tiffany, damn it," he said standing up and hitting her desk with his fist. The front door of the townhouse opened and two policemen walked in. "Tiffany Diamond?" one of the policemen asked. "Yes," she said quickly turning the sound off on the TV with the remote. "We need to talk to you," the other policeman said. "See ya later Tiffany. Good luck with the fine mess you got yourself into," Skeeter said walking towards the door to leave. CONTINUED MONDAY.
