Chelsea has quite a history. The Hudson River Railroad ran along 11th Avenue in 1851 and the area was filled with slaughterhouses, breweries and tenements. From 1905 to 1915 it was the movie industry and artists that inhabited the area. Today, Chelsea is the center of art, shopping and sports.
Top right picture you see the Old Homestead Steak House at 56 9th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets. This restaurant has watched them come and go since 1868.
Center right picture you see the Chelsea Piers which is a huge sporting complex on the Hudson River (left in the photo). Across the Joe DiMaggio highway is the old meat packing district with the warehouses that are now home to art galleries and expensive stores.
Bottom right you see Hogs and Heifers Saloon. This is where many famous actresses and ordinary women leave their bras hanging over the bar.
