"Yes this is Tiffany," Tiffany said into the telephone as she realized she was talking to her estranged lover's wife.
"Yes. I talk to my husband, Amir. We attend this party at the Plaza tomorrow night."
"Oh.  Thanks I'll tell Clark. Thank you for calling," Tiffany said hanging up the phone. She wiped the tears from her cheeks as she realized that tomorrow night would be the showdown she had dreaded for so long.  She would be forced to meet Amir's wife.  She wondered if she should just quit her job.  The media would be covering the events at the Plaza and they knew she had been Amir's lover before his wife came home from his island.  How could she possibly endure an evening like this?  The phone on her desk rang.  She wiped the tears from her cheeks and sniffled before picking up the phone.
"Manhattan Party Planning," she answered.
"Tiffany," Amir said.
"Amir!  Oh God.  I just had to call your wife about the party tomorrow night."
"Yes she call me at the office and tells me of your call," he said in his broken English.
"I'm so sorry.  I didn't want to call, but Clark made me.  He thinks he can get the TV stations to cover the party if some of the important guests are attending."
"You only do your job," he said.
"Yes. I was afraid you would think that I was...You know...bothering your wife," Tiffany said having a difficult time getting the words out of her mouth.
"I never think this.  How are you?" he asked in the sexy voice she remembered so well.
"I was okay until now.  It was difficult speaking to your wife on the phone."
"I know this is unpleasant situation."
"Yes.  Does she know that it was me?  I mean does she know I'm the one that you were seeing before she came home?"
"Yes."
"Oh God. Is she angry with me?"
"No."
"No? Really?"
"No. There are so many problems that you never know," he said as his voice seemed to fade.
"What's the matter Amir?"
"Malena never fully recover."
"I'm so sorry. I thought that maybe you were really happy. I hadn't heard from you in so long," she said.
"Yes, my love. We agree I give my attention to Malena.  I miss you very much Tiffany."
"Oh God. Amir I've missed you too.  It's been so hard not seeing you or talking with you. I was so afraid when I called that you would think I was trying to cause problems for you and Malena."
"I know you better than this.  I know you never do anything to hurt me."
"So you and your wife are going to the party tomorrow night?"
"Yes.  Will you be there?"
"Yes. I have to go. It's my job."
"Then I see you there.  I go now my love, the mayor comes to my office," he said watching his secretary walking towards his office with the mayor.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow night then," she said.
"I see you then," he said hanging up the phone as the mayor smiled walking into Amir's office and towers overlooking the Hudson River.
