Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday July 5th 2002
"Hi Tiffany! How was your Fourth of July?" Clark asked as he watched his secretary take a seat at her desk.
"Good, and yours?" she said putting her purse down and taking a seat at her desk in his townhouse where they work in the village.
"Great. Nicole and I are almost ready for our engagement party at the Plaza. Matter of fact, I want you to call several people and be sure they are coming. I want to try and get the media to come. If I have some important people attending I can get some free publicity."
"Sure. Just give me the list."
"Here," he said handing her a handwritten list of names to call. "I'm meeting Nicole at a café this morning on Bleecker Street. She has been spending a few nights in her apartment lately. I guess she's becoming a nervous bride," he said smiling.
"Really. I didn't think she liked her apartment very much," Tiffany said wondering if Nicole was staying on Bleecker Street so she would have freedom to slip over and see her estranged husband Skeeter. She had always been suspicious of the two of them, and as far as she could see, nothing had changed.
"Yeah, she didn't like the place at first but now she says she's going to hold onto it because the rent is low."
"Oh. Why would she keep an extra apartment after she's married?" Tiffany asked trying to hide her suspicion.
"Her Father has business associates that come into town and they'll stay there sometimes."
"Oh really? Like this guy Megollo?"
"Yeah, I wasn't going to bring his name up. But now that you mention it….Nicole told me that he and Starlene were really hot and heavy," Clark said smiling.
"He likes Starlene but she's engaged to Stanley you know?"
"Nicole told me that Megollo said he wasn't going to let Starlene go. He thinks she's the woman for him. He wants to take her to Florida to meet everyone there."
"That won't happen. I can tell you that Starlene is committed to Stanley."
"That's all fine and good if Stanley were committed to Starlene, but Stanley will probably never get married. Don't tell your sister I said these things, of course."
"No, of course," Tiffany said listening closely to his words.
"Stanley's a confirmed bachelor. I've known Stanley for years. He's always had big-busted blondes on his arm. I'm sorry Tiffany. I don't mean any disrespect to your sister Starlene, but I just don't believe he'll get married. Megollo seems to really like Starlene. Maybe she should give him a chance."
"Thanks for your candor. The only thing is I worry about Megollo's connections and I have to be honest too Clark…." She stopped herself before finishing her thoughts.
"What?"
"I worry about Nicole's family connections. You know the newspapers have linked Nicole's father to the mob in Florida."
"Oh I've asked Nicole about that," he said smiling.
"And, what did she say?"
"It's just her Father's competitors that create these rumors. A few of her Father's friends are in jail, but there's nothing to worry about."
"Oh okay," Tiffany said totally unconvinced.
"I better go. I don't want to keep Nicole waiting. I need an answer from the people on this list today so I can contact the television stations this evening. If these guests are coming, I'm sure the TV stations will send a crew over to cover the engagement party. Manhattan Party Planning can really use some free publicity," he added.
"Sure," she said glancing down at the list. Her heart sank when she saw the first names on the list to call "Amir and Malena Hada", her estranged lover and his wife.
