Tiffany watched Nicole walk through the living room in her sheer silk robe towards the stairs to go up with her morning coffee.
"I'm going to take a shower," Nicole said turning to smile at Tiffany.
"Sure," Tiffany said never looking up. She was still steaming about Nicole's last remark about her sister Starlene and Nicole's Father's business associate.
When she heard Nicole's footsteps on the floor above her she quickly picked up the telephone and dialed the number to her apartment on Bleecker Street.  She tapped her long manicured nails on her desk as she listened to the phone ring.
"Hello," Starlene answered yawning as she sat on the edge of her bed.
"Starlene are you just getting up?"
"Yeah.  Why?"
"I've talked to Nicole."
"So?"
"She's implying that you and this guy…what's his name?"
"Megollo," Starlene said remembering the handsome young Italian.
"She is implying that you were throwing yourself on Megollo last night."
"Of course she would say nasty stuff like that."
"Did you Starlene?" Tiffany asked remembering the low cut dress her sister had been wearing when she went to the Plaza hoping to meet with Nicole's father and complain about her to him.
"No, never.  You know me," Starlene said reaching for the remote and turning on the TV.
"Yes.  That's why I'm calling to clear this up."
"You worry too much Tiffany."
"Starlene you told me yourself that this guy brought you home in his car."
"He was being polite."
"You said he kissed you," Tiffany said as the front door of the townhouse opened and Clark walked in smiling.
"Yes, he did," Starlene said remembering how he had held her close outside the entrance to their apartment on MacDougal Street.
"I hope that's all that happened," Tiffany said lowering her voice as Clark walked towards her desk.
"Yeah," Starlene said.
"Because it seems word will get around.  Look I have to go."
"What do you mean?" Starlene asked starting to become alarmed that her lover Stanley might find out.
"I have to go Clark just came in and we have to go over the mail together. I'll call you later." Tiffany said hanging up the phone.
"Hi Tiffany.  Was that Starlene?" he asked taking a seat in the chair in front of her desk.
"Yeah," she said picking up a stack of mail to show him.
"Has Stanley found out yet?" Clark asked smiling.
"What?
"That Starlene went to a room at the Plaza with one of Nicki's Father's business associates."
"No. Clark Starlene would never do that," Tiffany said shocked by his statement.
"That's not what I heard."
"What did you hear?
"Nicki told me that the two of them couldn't keep their hands off each other.  She said she doesn't think Starlene will be getting married anytime soon. At least not to Stanley."
