Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday June 10th 2002 Clark slid into the taxi beside Nicole and closed the door. "MacDougal alley," Clark said as the driver quickly turned on the meter and started out into the traffic on Central Park south. "I liked the second ballroom the best. I think Father liked that one too. What about you?" Nicole asked. "It was okay." "What's the matter Honey. Aren't you excited about our engagement party?" "No. Not at all Nicole." "What's the matter Clark you aren't getting cold feet are you?" "No. There are just some things bothering me." "What?" "Are you sure that you and Stanley only had lunch the other day at the Plaza?" "Of course." "Nicole. You know when Stanley came to me and wanted me to hire you I thought it was too good to be true." "But it all worked out didn't it?" she asked rubbing the leg of his trousers. "I don't know yet. I mean he told me he was going to pay your salary and you'd work for me for free." "Yeah. That's been great too." "I thought then that no man would be willing to do that if something wasn't wrong." "It was... Starlene. She was so jealous of Stanley and me. Remember we've been all through this before." "Maybe she had a reason to be jealous." "What are you saying Clark?' "I just have this feeling that there's a lot more to your relationship with Stanley than you've told me." "I've told you everything. I worked for him and Starlene couldn't stand it she was so jealous. My Father didn't like it either. It was better for me to leave and work for you." "Nicole the other day at the Plaza and you were there with Stanley…." He stopped and looked out of the window of the cab. "What? You were probably as surprised as I had been when I ran into him downtown and he invited me." "No. That's not all of it." "What?" "I noticed that Stanley had lipstick on his collar." "Oh that. Is that what's bothering you?" "Yes. That's really been eating at me." "Well you should have said so. I noticed the same thing myself. He had the lipstick on his collar when I met him for lunch. I had teased him about it. I think maybe Stanley has a thing for his secretary, but don't tell Starlene," she lied. "Really?" "Yeah. Now do you feel better?" she said kissing him on the neck as she massaged his thigh. "A little better. I just think I should feel sure of us before we get married." "What's it going to take to make you feel good about everything?" she said as her hand drifted up his pants leg. "Nicole…" Clark said glancing towards the front of the cab to see if the driver was watching. "I'm going to make you feel sure Clark. Always," she whispered in his ear. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
