Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday June 3rd 2002 "I see Clark and Jan over there," Stanley mumbled under his breath as the waiter ushered Nicole and him towards a nearby table in the Palm Court Restaurant of the Plaza Hotel. "What?" Nicole whispered glancing around and noticing Jan at the nearby table with Clark. "Oh God. This is it," Stanley said tapping the waiter on the shoulder to tell him they had changed their minds about being seated for lunch at the restaurant. ---- "Your Father is with Nicole," Clark said as he glanced up. "I see he is. I wonder what they have been doing?" Jan asked as she saw her Father and Nicole hesitate when they saw them nearby. "Nicole! What are you doing here with Stanley?" Clark asked as he quickly came to his feet dropping his linen napkin on the floor. "Hi honey," Nicole said nervously rushing towards the table as Stanley followed her. "What are you doing here with him?" Clark asked frowning as he noticed the beads of perspiration on Stanley's forehead. "We were just getting ready to have lunch," Stanley said smiling nervously. "Lunch, you and Nicole? I thought you were shopping for bridal gowns and lingerie Nicole," Clark said noticing the short skirt his bride-to-be was wearing. "I was honey. Then I ran into Stanley downtown when I was going into Century 21," Nicole said referring to the discount designer store. "Yeah. I was just going into Century 21," Stanley repeated as he felt a pain in his chest. "Father I've never known you to walk through the doors of a discount store in your life," Jan said smiling. "His reputation is safe. He didn't go into the store. I asked him to take me to lunch at the Plaza." "Why would you do that Nicole?" Clark asked remembering the rumors that Stanley had been caught having an affair with Nicole and that's why her Father had demanded that the older man find her another job. Stanley had been very willing to pay her salary if he hired her. It hadn't been a week ago that Stanley had contacted Nicole's Father and said that since she was marrying him now he would discontinue paying her salary. "Nicole said she was trying to find a nice place for your engagement party so I thought I'd buy her lunch here," Stanley said. "Oh," Clark said relieved by the answer. "Yes. What a surprise to see you here with Jan," Nicole said. "Yes, Jan offered to buy me lunch to celebrate our engagement," Clark said. "Well what a coincidence! Nicole do you think we should have our engagement party here?" Clark asked. "Yes. It would be nice," Nicole said. "Father why don't you and Nicole join us?" Jan asked enjoying the game. "Actually I got a phone call on the way over here and I need to leave early. Since the two of you are here, let me treat everyone to lunch in my absence," Stanley said as Nicole started to take a seat beside Clark. "That's nice of you," Clark said. "I know Nicole's Father will appreciate you showing her the hotel and taking so much interest in her," Clark said noticing lipstick on Stanley's collar. "Oh. I don't talk to her Father often," Stanley said nervously pulling out Nicole's chair as she took a seat beside Clark. "I'll be sure and tell him about your thoughtful gesture," Clark said suspiciously. "Stanley has offered to pay for our engagement party here at the Plaza honey," Nicole said crossing her legs in the short skirt and smiling as she glanced up and noticed both men and the waiter looking at her legs.
