It was back in 1946 when John D. Rockefeller Jr. offered the United Nations a gift of $8.5 million to acquire the present site on the East River.  It's really a very gorgeous 18 acres of beautiful lawns, statues, rose gardens and great views. Top right picture you the United Nations Building as seen from Tudor City. Center right picture you see the UN as seen from the FDR Drive.  As you can see the UN is situated on the banks of the East River. Bottom right picture you see the flags in front of the UN on First Avenue.  Getting onto the grounds of the UN has changed in the past year. We'll tell you more about this on the next page.
