Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday April 1st 2002
"Is that you Tiffany?"  Starlene called out from the kitchen as she heard the front door of the apartment overlooking Washington Square Park slam shut.
"Yeah, it's me," Tiffany said taking off her jacket and hanging it on a rack beside the door.
"I'm in here come in and tell me what happened," Starlene called out as she opened a kitchen cabinet.
"Skeeter asked me for a divorce and Nicole called while I was there," Tiffany said walking into the kitchen and taking a seat at the bar.
"Did you tell him you would give him the divorce?" Starlene asked turning to glance at her sister's worried face.
"No.  I didn't.  I might not give him a divorce either.  He's a liar and a cheat," Tiffany said taking a sip of her sister's glass of Coke that was on the bar.
"Don't you think you'd be happier though if you just divorced him. I mean the two of you haven't been together in years now," Starlene said taking a can of tomato sauce from the cabinet.
"Starlene.  I think Skeeter wants to marry Nicole."
"No.  No way.  He's too smart to marry her."
"I think so. They're two of a kind Starlene.  Skeeter chases every woman in New York and she chases all the men.  They are a perfect pair."
"Well did the two of you agree on anything?"
"No.  If that wasn't enough…Oh!  I could just kill him," Tiffany said hitting the bar with her fist.
"What?"
"He moved our mobile home in Georgia off of the property that Daddy was going to give me.  Then he talked Daddy into deeding it to him and he sold it."
"Yeah," Starlene said avoiding her sister's eyes as she opened the tomatoes.
"You knew it Starlene?"
"Daddy told me he did that. Daddy was mad at you for leaving and moving to New York."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"What good would it do? You know Daddy."
"None. But now I don't even have that property. Skeeter's taken everything."
"You aren't ever going to move back to Georgia anyway."
"I don't know if things don't improve here. I might," she said picking up the remote for the TV.  "What are you doing Starlene?" she asked watching her sister pour the can of tomatoes over a box of uncooked pasta she had thrown into a pan.
"I'm making dinner for me and Stanley. He's coming over."
"Why?"
"I want Stanley to see me as domestic.  I want to talk to him about setting a date for our wedding," Starlene said placing slices of American cheese on top of the tomato and pasta mixture.
"Starlene you don't know how to cook."
"He'll be impressed that I'm learning.  I might have to give big dinner parties once we're married," she said pouring ketchup on top.
"What are you making?"
"Lasagne."
"Oh no. That looks horrible," Tiffany said as she turned to see a glimpse of Amir on the TV screen.
"I've got a cake in the oven too," Starlene said noticing the smoke coming from the oven door.
"Look Starlene!" Tiffany said as she watched Amir on TV walking through JFK airport.
"I see it Tiffany.  It's no big deal," Starlene said fanning the black smoke as she opened the oven door.
