"As we graze it grows"

1 cup butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sour cream
Grated rind of one orange
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/4 cup orange juice
1/3 cup Grand Marnier or other orange flavored liqueur
2 tablespoons slivered blanched almonds

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cream together the butter and one cup sugar until light and fluffy.  Beat in the egg yolks.  Sift together the flour, baking powder and baking soda and add alternately with the sour cream, stirring until smooth.  Stir in the orange rind and nuts. Beat the egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold them into the batter.  Grease a nine inch tube cake pan and pour in the batter. Bake 50 minutes or until cake is done when tested.  Combine the orange juice, Grand Marnier and the remaining sugar and spoon the mixture over the hot cake.  Decorate the top with the almonds.  Let cake cool before removing it from the pan.  Serves 10.
