Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday January 30th 2002
"You get it Tiffany", Starlene instructed her sister motioning towards the ringing telephone as they sat on the sofa in their apartment overlooking Washington Square Park.
"What if it's him?" Tiffany asked referring to Stanley as the telephone rang again.
Starlene blew her nose hard into the Kleenex. "I don't know. Tell him I went out with another man or something," Starlene said wiping the tears from her cheeks.
"Hello", Tiffany answered.
"Hi Tiffany. How are you?" Stanley asked.
"I'm fine Stanley," Tiffany said looking towards Starlene and watching her turn up her nose at his name.
"Is your sister there?" Stanley asked.
"Starlene?" Tiffany asked.
"Well of course Tiffany," Stanley laughed realizing that Starlene had probably already told her about catching him on his office sofa with his secretary Nicole.
"Hold on and I'll see," Tiffany said putting her hand on the phone and raising her eyebrows at Starlene.
"No," Starlene muttered wiping the tears from her red cheeks.
"Stanley. I don't think she's here," Tiffany said.
"Well, when she comes in tell her to call me."
"Sure."
"She's kind of upset," Stanley said hesitating.
"Oh really?" Tiffany asked dying to hear his side of the story.
"Yeah. She stopped by the office and I was in a meeting with Nicole. She got a little jealous and left angry."
"I see."
"She's jealous you know," Stanley said.
"Does she have a reason to be?" Tiffany asked remembering that Starlene said she had caught them in the act.
"Well, I guess maybe she does have a reason to be mad. It doesn't mean anything though," he said laughing slightly.
"Oh. What if you caught her doing that?," Tiffany asked as she saw a faint smile come on Starlene's face as she listened.
"Well, I guess it was wrong. You know Nicole's young and she's eager. I let it get a little out of hand I suppose," he said.
"So what do you want Starlene to do?" Tiffany asked.
"I want her to calm down and not be so upset with me."
"Maybe she'll need a little time," Tiffany said watching Starlene shake her head as fresh tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Well, tell her I'm here at home if she wants me to send my car over for her," Stanley said.
"I'll tell her Stanley. Hold on she just came in," Tiffany said putting her hand on the phone and pretending that her sister had just walked in.
"Starlene, it's Stanley. He's worried about you and wants you to come over," Tiffany said for Stanley's benefit.
"Tell him to go to hell," Starlene said making sure she was loud enough for Stanley to hear.
"Mention the limo and tell her I made reservations for The Rainbow Room," Stanley said hearing Starlene's instructions for where he could go.
"He said he would send his limo and he made reservations for the two of you at the Rainbow Room," Tiffany said nodding to Starlene.
"Well…." Starlene said wiping her cheeks as she reconsidered the offer.
