Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday January 29th 2002
"Do you think you'll be at City Hall all day tomorrow?"  Tiffany asked her lover Amir as they talked on the telephone. The front door of her apartment overlooking Washington Square Park slammed shut.
"I think Starlene just came home," Tiffany said. "Hold on… Starlene is that you?" Tiffany called out.
"Yes, it's me," Starlene said in a low depressed voice.
"I better go. It sounds like something's wrong with my sister," Tiffany said hanging up the phone and walking into the living room as she watched Starlene walk towards the sofa and throw herself down face first.
"Starlene… What's the matter?"  Tiffany asked as she watched her young sister's body shake as she cried.
"It's Stanley," Starlene said.
"Oh my God.  Did he have a heart attack?" Tiffany asked thinking that the wealthy old man had died.
"No. I wish he had," Starlene said crying louder.
"Come on Starlene," Tiffany said walking to the sofa and taking a seat on the edge of the cushion near her sister. Tiffany rubbed the back of Starlene's sweater as her shoulders trembled.
"Tell me about it honey," Tiffany said softly.
"I hate him Tiffany," Starlene said rolling over and sitting upright to face her sister.
"What on earth happened?" Tiffany asked watching Starlene wipe the tears from her cheeks.
"I caught him in the office with Nicole," Starlene said as fresh tears rolled down her red cheeks.
"Nicole does work for him Starlene," Tiffany said patting Starlene on the knee.
"They were doing
it in his office," Starlene said throwing her hands over her eyes as she remembered walking into her lover's office after hours and catching him making love to Nicole on his sofa.
"You're kidding?" Tiffany asked shocked.
"No.  I promise.  I caught them doing
it."
"What did he say," Tiffany asked.
"That it wasn't what it looked like or something stupid like that."
"What did she say?"
"Not much.  She didn't apologize or anything.  She just got dressed and walked out of the office."
"Then what?" Tiffany asked amazed that her sister's romance had taken such a sudden turn.
"I yelled at him for a while," Starlene said taking a Kleenex from the box on the coffee table and blowing her nose.
"Oh Starlene.  I'm so sorry honey," Tiffany said as she watched her sister's body start to shake again as she cried.
"I'm going to kill her," Starlene said.
"No. You can't kill her Starlene," Tiffany said.
"Then I'll kill him," Starlene said.
"No honey, you'll find somebody else," Tiffany said rubbing her shoulder.
"Not many men have that much money," Starlene said crying harder than before.
"Is that all you cared about Starlene?"
"Of course not.  I cared deeply," she said thinking about her ruined chances of becoming a star with Stanley's connections.  The telephone on the table near the sofa rang interrupting Starlene as she reached for another Kleenex to blow her nose.
