Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday December 28th 2001 "Why can't you fire her Father?" Jan asked furious that she had caught his secretary Nicole in the apartment with her secret lover Skeeter the other night when she stopped by. "I promised her Father," Stanley said turning his leather office chair around to glance out of the window of his office in the Empire State Building. "You promised her Father what?" Jan asked pacing the floor in front of her Father's desk. "That I'd give her a job here." "So what do you care?" "I promised him and that's that." "You can always tell him it's not working out with her." "No. I can't do that." "Why Father, why?" "He's a powerful man Jan. He owns a lot of businesses," Stanley said turning back to face his daughter. "So do you." "But he owns a few more than I do." "None in New York." "No, not yet." "Are you planning on doing business with him? Is that it?" "I don't know. I just know he's a player and I can't fire his daughter." "Father I know she was making a pass at you that day when I opened the door to this office." "We were just talking," Stanley said remembering the moment he saw Jan open his office door catching him on the sofa with Nicole. "Look Father I saw it with my own eyes, right over there," she said pointing to the leather sofa in his office. "It's not what it looked like," Stanley lied remembering how shocked he was that he got so far with the young girl during the job interview. "Father, I know what it looked like and I know what she was doing." "Let's just drop the subject Jan. I've got to get to a meeting," he said standing up and opening the briefcase on his desk. "So you won't fire her?" "No. I won't fire her Jan," he said putting papers from his desk into his briefcase and closing it. "I wonder how many other men she's having affairs with?" "I don't see why you care," he said walking past her towards his office door. "You really are making a fool of yourself Father." "I'll worry about that," he said stopping at his door before opening it. "I thought Starlene was bad enough, but Nicole is worse Father, far worse," referring to Starlene, his nineteen year old girlfriend. "Why because she went to Skeeter's house?" "Because I stood outside the apartment door and I heard them Father. She's having an affair with him." "Why do you care?" "Only because of you. You're my Father." "Are you sure that's it Jan?" he asked suspiciously. "Of course." "Good. I won't continue to support you if I find out you're wasting your time on a man like Skeeter Diamond," Stanley said starting to open the door. "But it's okay for Nicole to?" "If you value your lifestyle, you'll stay out of this and away from Skeeter and any man like him", Stanley said opening his office door and walking out into the hallway. He hesitated before closing the door. "Jan, don't give Nicole a hard time either. She can do whatever she wants. She's on payroll not on the signature card like you are." "That's not fair," she said feeling her face redden in anger. "And Jan, no scenes at the party either." He said referring to the upcoming New Year's Eve get together that everyone would be attending.
