Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday December 26th 2001 "You're here early this morning", Jan's Father's receptionist said as she watched Jan walk into the lobby of his offices. "Is Father here yet?" Jan asked. "No, not yet. Was he expecting you Jan?" "I'll wait in his office," she said not bothering to answer but instead she rushed to open her Father's office door. She quickly closed the door behind her and walked over to the window looking down at the view below from the Empire State Building. "Jan your Father just called and said he would be late coming in this morning," the young receptionist said over the intercom on Jan's Father's desk. "Why didn't you put him on the phone?" Jan snapped turning her attention towards her Father's long mahogany desk. "He was in a hurry Jan," the receptionist said defensively. "I need to talk to him! Did he leave a number where he can be reached?" "No. I'm sorry Jan," the receptionist said as the new secretary Nicole walked in the lobby towards her desk. "Sorry, what good does that do now," Jan screamed into the speaker taking a seat at her Father's desk and opening the desk drawer. "I'm really sorry Jan," the receptionist said over the speakerphone shaking her head as Nicole stood listening to the conversation. "You certainly are," Jan said hitting the button on the phone and turning her attention to snooping in her Father's desk drawer. "What's she doing here?" Nicole asked. "I don't know. She just dropped by." "I think I know," Nicole said feeling sure that Jan had stopped by to try and get her fired. "It's hard to believe that she's Stanley's daughter," the receptionist said referring to her good-natured wealthy employer. "Where is Stanley?" "I don't know he just phoned and said he'd be a little late. I don't know what that means today," she said honestly. "I'm going in to talk to Jan. If Stanley comes in buzz the office and warn me. Okay?" "Sure," the receptionist said wondering why Nicole would want to talk with Jan when she was obviously in such a nasty mood. Nicole walked down the hallway and pushed the door to Stanley's office open as Jan quickly closed the drawer to her Father's desk. "What are you doing here?" Jan snapped worried that Nicole had seen her going through her Father's papers. "I work here remember?" Nicole said walking into the office and closing the door behind her. "I'm here to discuss business matters with my Father. Don't you think you're spreading yourself a little thin Nicole," Jan said referring to catching her at Skeeter's apartment last night. "Jan, what I do in my off hours isn't any of your affairs. I wonder why you stopped by Skeeter's apartment?" she asked raising her eyebrows. "I told you I was in the neighborhood and saw you going up to his apartment." "And why would you want to see me so much that you would follow me there?" "I wanted to see if you were having an affair with Skeeter as well as my Father." "So what do you think Jan?" "I think you're seeing Skeeter and I think you've made passes at my Father too," Jan said tapping her long manicured nails on the desk. "Are you having an affair with Skeeter?" "What I do is none of your concern," Jan snapped. "I think that's why you came to his apartment. I think you're jealous Jan." "That's not true. You're just a loose woman Nicole. A gold digger. I'll have you fired today." "I'll see to it your Father knows you sleep with Skeeter too," Nicole said as they both heard the footsteps in the hallway outside the door and the buzzer on the desk sounded. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
