Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday October 22nd 2001
"Hi Tiffany" Starlene called out as she heard the front door close to the apartment overlooking Washington Square Park.
"Hi," Tiffany said as she walked into the living room taking a seat on the sofa and throwing her purse on the cushion beside her.
"What's the matter?" Starlene asked walking quickly into the living room after hearing the discouraged tone in her older sister's voice.
"Another hard day at work," Tiffany said kicking off her high heels and putting her feet up on the coffee table.
"What happened?  You look as if someone died," Starlene said taking a seat beside her sister on the sofa.
"I feel that way."
"What's the matter?"
"Did you talk to Stanley today?" Tiffany asked.
"No.  He said he would be in meetings all day," Starlene said.
"Figures," Tiffany said thoughtfully.
"What does that mean?"
"I think Stanley's doing all of the interviewing for this new assistant."
"Really why do you say that?"
"Because Jan came by the office and she was expecting this applicant that called and canceled.  She stayed upstairs in the office with Clark until almost lunchtime.  Then she called her Father and left the office really angry."
"Jan being angry isn't anything new Tiffany."
"Yeah, but Clark said that he overheard the conversation she had with her Father on the phone and it seems that Stanley is taking over the interviewing of the applicants."
"I guess he has the right to do that."
"I just don't like it Starlene."
"Why?"
"This whole thing feels wrong to me.  I mean Amir never mentioned hiring an assistant for Jan before he left."
"Are you worried that you'll be jealous of this new girl?"
"No, I don't even think Stanley has hired anyone yet.  It just bothers me.  Its hard enough taking orders from Jan but now there might be another employee."
"What office will this new person work from?"
"I think Stanley's until Amir comes back."
"Oh..." Starlene said picking up the phone from the table.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm calling Stanley."
"Why?"
"I want to know who this new girl is and why he didn't tell me about it."
"Don't tell him that I said anything," Tiffany said watching her sister dial the number.
"Is Stanley in?" Starlene asked into the phone when Stanley's young secretary answered.
"Hold on please."
"Hello," Stanley answered.
"Stanley, why didn't you tell me you were hiring a new employee?" Starlene asked.
"Since when do I have to answer to you and my daughter when I make business decisions?" he snapped.
"I just asked you a question Stanley.  You don't have to be so nasty," Starlene said.
"I've had a busy day and I have to run out.  I'll call you later."
"You still want to come over tonight, right?" she asked sweetly. Every Monday night he took her out to a restaurant before his visit to her bedroom.
"I don't think so tonight," Stanley said watching the young dark-haired applicant as she pulled a long sweater coat over the short red skirt that barely covered her thighs.  "You need this Stanley," she whispered as she held up her resume towards the older man.
"Who was that?" Starlene asked.
"I'll call you later. I'm in a meeting." Stanley said hanging up the phone.
