Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday October 15th 2001 Tiffany sat at her desk opening the morning mail when the door to the townhouse opened. "Mornin' Tiffany," Clark said walking into the entrance hallway of his townhouse and closing the door. "Mornin'" she said looking up briefly and smiling as he put his briefcase by the sofa and hung up his wet raincoat beside the door. "I'm going up to make sales calls. I'm expecting Jan later this morning," he said starting up the stairs to his office carrying a newspaper still wrapped in plastic. "Okay," Tiffany said trying hard not to allow the discomfort of Jan's impending visit reflect in her voice. The phone on her desk rang and she picked up the receiver. "Manhattan Party Planning," she answered. "My love," Amir said. "Amir! I'm so glad to hear your voice. I called your office after seeing you on TV yesterday," she said referring to his press conference where he made the announcement that he was pulling out of the race for mayor. "Yes. I get message. I leave immediately for island after television interview," he said in his broken English. "You mean you're not in New York now?" "No. Home on island," he said as the connection on the phone started to break up. "When are you coming home?" Tiffany asked. "I no hear you," Amir said. "When are you coming home?" Tiffany asked a little louder. She heard Clark's footsteps on the floor above her and hoped he wouldn't hear her conversation. "I stay on island. Doctors tell me…." he said as the cracking sounds came over the phone. "How is your wife?" Tiffany asked. "You are there?" Amir asked. "Yes…How is your wife?" she repeated. "You hear me, no?" Amir said as the cracking sounds returned into the phone connection and he hung up. Tiffany hung the phone up as tears started to roll down her cheeks. She tried to tell herself that at least he had called her even if he was with his wife now. "Are you okay?" Clark said walking down the stairs and towards her desk. "Yes. I'm fine," she said touching her cheek with her fingertips to dry the tears. "That was Amir wasn't it?" he said walking to the chair next to her desk. "Yes." "Did he say when he's coming home?" "No," she said wiping a fresh tear from her cheek. The front door of the townhouse opened and they both looked towards the lobby. "I see you are both here," Jan said closing the door and placing her umbrella into the stand. "Hi Jan. You're early," Clark said. "We have a lot to cover," she said smiling. "Parties to plan?" Clark asked hopefully. "Yes, lots of them," she said as she hung up her raincoat. "Would you like to have coffee down here first?" Clark said motioning towards the sofa. "No. We have some important matters to discuss. Tiffany make us coffee and bring it upstairs," Jan said as she watched Clark leave the chair beside Tiffany's desk and walk towards her. "Sure," Tiffany said watching Clark walk towards the stairs as the two of them started to go up to his office. "Oh and Tiffany…I'm expecting a call from a woman that Amir and I might be hiring as our assistant," Jan said pausing briefly on the stairs. "Amir's hiring an assistant for the two of you?" Clark asked. "Yeah. He's promoted me," Jan said smugly glancing towards Tiffany. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
