Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday October 12th 2001 "We're here at City Hall with the political analyst Thomas Jordan. Mr. Jordan what do you think of Mr. Hada's move to leave the race for mayor? We just heard Andrew Coleman say that he expects to see Amir run for a higher office one day very soon. What do you think?" the television reporter asked as they stood in front of a crowd of spectators on the steps of City Hall. The wind blew and a banner with 'Mayor Amir' waved in the background as a community activist addressed the crowds. "I think Mr. Hada's chances of becoming mayor were shrinking daily." "Because of his involvement with the secretary Tiffany Diamond?" "Yes. That's right." "But Mr. Hada's poll numbers showed that he was still in the lead." "Sooner or later this kind of extra marital affair would have cost him. Perhaps all of the voters that were being polled hadn't seen the newspaper articles linking Mr. Hada with another woman while his wife was in a coma." "So you don't think Mr. Hada will be able to successfully run for office after this? What about the fact that he has fulfilled his campaign promises by saying he would take money out of his own pocket to build the community center, libraries and day care centers that he promised in his campaign speeches. He even went beyond the campaign promises and has pledged substantial funds for rebuilding downtown." "I think now the other parties will put more heat on Mr. Hada and his actions will be watched closer." "You feel this because you think he has his eyes on running for an even higher office?" "Yes. He might be able to buy his way out of this in New York, but it will be another story in Middle America. Let's not forget Amir just became an American citizen." "I guess we'll have to wait and see. That's all the time we have now. We'll return you to your regularly scheduled programming of "the Bold and the Beautiful," the television announcer said as the screen changed. "Oh my God Tiffany. You might be in love with the next President of the United States!" Starlene said throwing the remote to the television on the coffee table. "I just hope I get to see him again," Tiffany said thoughtfully turning to look out of the window of their apartment overlooking Washington Square Park. "You'll see him again. I bet he'll call you soon." "I don't know. I haven't heard from him since that detective took the picture and put it on the front page of the newspaper. That's what started all of this Starlene." "Call him now Tiffany." "I don't know." "Call," Starlene said handing Tiffany the phone. "You really think I should?" "Do you want to sit here another minute wondering if you are ever going to see the man you love again?" "No." "Then call, what harm could that do?" "I guess…." Tiffany said slowly dialing the number on the phone and listening to it ring. "Manhattan Gold International," the secretary answered. "Could I speak to Amir please," Tiffany said. "May I ask who's calling?" "Tiffany Diamond," she said nervously. "Hold on," the secretary said as music started to play. "I don't know if this was the right thing to do Starlene," Tiffany said holding her hand over the phone and looking up into Starlene's face as she stood in front of her. "It's the right thing. Besides…" Starlene said stopping as Tiffany held up her hand indicating that she was listening to someone on the other end of the phone. "Yes, Tiffany Mr. Hada said to tell you that he'll be in touch with you later," the secretary said hanging up the phone. "Oh God…he's not taking my calls," Tiffany said. CONTINUED MONDAY.
