Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday October 10^th 2001
"We're here at City Hall where Amir Hada is getting ready for a press conference.  We'll be right back after this commercial break," the TV announcer said as Starlene lowered the volume with the remote and turned to face her sister.
"What's he going to say Tiffany, do you know?" Starlene asked Tiffany as they sat side by side on the sofa in their apartment overlooking Washington Square Park.
"I have no idea.  After the picture of the two of us on the front of today's newspaper I don't know what he can say," Tiffany said edging forward and clenching her hands together.
"Well did he say he might back out of the race?" Starlene asked.
"No Starlene, I didn't get a chance to talk to him after the picture came out in the newspaper," Tiffany said remembering their intimate hours in his mansion before the press photographers caught them leaving and plastered their photos all over the newspapers.
The commercial for a computer store ended and the scene at City Hall appeared on the television screen.  Starlene quickly turned the volume up on the TV and both sisters leaned forward on the sofa.
"We're back at City Hall as we wait for Amir Hada's press conference to start.  We just got in the latest poll numbers on Mr. Hada's campaign for mayor and he is still ahead even after the recent events.  This is in spite of today's newspaper publishing a photo of Mr. Hada leaving his mansion with the secretary Tiffany Diamond.  As you know Miss Diamond works for Manhattan Party Planning and was linked romantically to Mr. Hada a few months ago when a tabloid newspaper published a risqué photo of the two of them on Mr. Hada's veranda.  Since then we haven't seen Mr. Hada in public with the secretary until this recent photo.  We do know that Mr. Hada's wife has lapsed back into a coma and her Mother has taken her back home to their island off the coast of Tonga for treatments."
The camera zoomed in on the podium with the banner that read 'Mayor Amir'.  Behind the crowd holding banners supporting Amir  you could see another man holding a banner "Amir wasn't American first". The camera then spanned the steps of City Hall and you could see the familiar faces of political insiders in dark suits as they stood huddled together.   The camera refocused on the podium and the loud sound of the crowd applauding could be heard as Amir walked up to the microphone. 
"Mayor Amir, Mayor Amir", the crowd chanted as Amir held up his hands and waved to the cameras.
"Thank you very much for support," Amir said in his broken English.
"Mayor Amir, Mayor Amir…" The crowd repeated.
"I come to thank all supporters and to tell you of my plan for future," Amir said as a hush fell over the crowd and the camera zoomed in closer on his handsome dark face.
"As you know I have many plans that we speak of in recent months for New York City.  I plan to open more libraries, community centers, day care for childrens," he said as the crowd started to applaud. "After September 11th our city need money, building and much work.
As you know my wife suffer many years in coma.  We hope that she regain former life, but she lapse once again back to coma.  Doctor at University say regain of memory very difficult in city that she never know.  For this reason she now go back to my island for treatment and be near family. Doctor say that to regain memory is best for her to live in familiar home.  For this reason I must spend time on island more.  This time away I feel make it impossible to perform duties of mayor during this difficult time.  For this reason, I make decision not to run for this office at this time.  I thank everyone for support.  I set up committee to give money to open libraries, community centers, and day care as I promise in campaign.  Now these things no take tax payer money, these things I give freely for people of this great city. I give much funds to help rebuilt downtown and how you say….restore business after tragedy that happen to our country.  Thank you very much." Amir said as he waved and started to move through the crowd as microphones were being pushed towards him.
"Mayor Amir, Mayor Amir…" the crowd chanted as a stunned faced reporter appeared on the scene.
"We just heard shocking news from the mayoral candidate Amir Hada that he has decided to leave the race for mayor in what has already been a long and difficult race. We have with us a political analyst Andrew Coleman.  Mr. Coleman what are Amir's chances for future political involvement in New York City?  And do you think this had anything to do with the scandal and his relationship with Tiffany Diamond ?"
