In view of all of the current events and stress we thought everyone could use a little getaway. Today we'll tour you through George Washington's getaway mansion in New York City.
Top right you see 145 Street in Harlem, not far from the mansion where George slept.
Center right picture you see the Morris-Jumel Mansion at West 160th Street. Back in 1776 George Washington stayed at the Morris Jumel Mansion as a retreat during the Battle of Harlem Heights. This Georgian mansion is the only colonial home to survive in northern Manhattan. It was originally known as Mount Morris back in 1765 when it was built by Colonel Roger Morris. Later in 1810 it was passed to Stephen Jumel, a wealthy French wine merchant.
Bottom right picture you see Sylvan Terrace row houses. These simple two story row houses were built in the 1880's. George Washington's bedroom window overlooks the 20 row houses of Sylvan Terrace. Click here for the next page on today's Manhattan photo tour.
