Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday October 3rd 2001 "Tiffany did the check from London Link party come in the mail today?" Clark asked over his intercom from his upstairs desk. "No," she said still reeling from her sister Starlene's phone call. Starlene had just called and told her that her picture was on the front page of today's newspaper with an article about her affair with the NYC mayoral candidate, Amir. "What's the matter? You sound upset." Clark asked. "Nothing," she said not wanting to discuss this matter until she had time to calm down and see the article for herself. "Is it the picture on today's newspaper?" Clark asked. "You've seen it?" "Yeah, I have the paper up here in my office. I just read the article Tiffany." "Oh God…." She moaned. "It isn't that earth shaking. I mean everyone in New York knows that you've been cited as the 'other woman'", he said proud of his secretary's fame. "Then you aren't upset?" "No. This has only helped business," he said referring to the fact her scandal with Amir had been free publicity and he'd managed to book far more parties than he had anticipated in his yearly projections. "I'm glad some good is coming of this," Tiffany said half-heartedly. "Have you talked to Amir about it?" "No. I haven't talked to him since the picture came out in the newspaper this morning." "Do you know if he plans to pull out of the race?" he asked referring to speculation by the press that Amir would bow out on his candidacy for Mayor of New York City. "I don't know." "You know Tiffany… Well…" he hesitated. "What?" "If you could find out and be the one that broke the news to the media that would be great." "I don't know about that," she said shocked that her boss would insinuate that she do something like this. "Think about it, that's all I'm saying. You could call the newspaper and tell them from the office here." "Okay Clark," she said annoyed. "Good. I hope you do. Well, I have that meeting uptown this morning. I'll be downstairs to pick up the papers to take with me soon." "Okay," she said hanging up the intercom and shaking her head in disbelief that he would want her to leak news about her lover. She was distracted by the sounds of the phone ringing on her desk. "Manhattan Party Planning," she answered. "You still work there?" "Skeeter?" "Yeah. Who did you think it was… the New York Times?" he asked as he looked down at the picture of her on the front page of a tabloid newspaper. A detective had snapped a shot of Amir and her leaving his Upper East Side mansion, arm and arm smiling. "What do you want?" "I want to talk to you." "About what?" "You and your rich lover Tiffany." "What Skeeter? What do you want?" "I thought you told me you weren't seeing him?" "What difference does it make to you?' "You're still my wife Tiffany. Does Amir know that you're still my wife?" "He knows about you." "Does his wife's Mother-in-law know that you're still married?" referring to the quote in the newspaper that Amir's Mother-in-law was angry over Amir's affair with Tiffany and had taken her comatose daughter back to their island home to recover. "What are you getting at Skeeter?" she said feeling her face start to burn with anger and fear. She quickly looked up and saw Clark walking towards her desk. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
