Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday September 12th 2001 Skeeter watched as a young, blonde NYU student stopped at the newsstand on the corner of West 3rd Street next to the basketball courts. She bent over to pick up a magazine and his eyes feasted on her long legs in the short skirt. He quickly walked up behind her and noticed she was buying a copy of "Modeling News". "Excuse me, is that the last copy?" he asked smiling broadly as she turned to face him. "No, there are more right there," she said expressionless. "Are you a model?" he asked in his slow southern accent. "No." "You look like one. Have you ever considered modeling?" he asked as his eyes quickly traveled to her full bosom in the light blue sweater she was wearing. "Why?" "I'm in casting, I'm always looking for models," he lied. "Really?" "Yeah." "What kind of models?" "Lingerie," he said. "I don't model." "Too bad," he said smiling glancing downward at her curvy hips. "I'm a magazine editor," she said quickly turning and walking away down the street towards the Blue Note nightclub. He glanced down at the stack of magazines wondering which one the good looking girl worked for when his eyes caught the front page of today's tabloid newspaper and a picture of his estranged wife. He picked up the newspaper and read the caption, "Will she move from the Georgia Mountains to Gracie Mansion?" "It's fifty cents mister," the man at the newsstand said. "Here," Skeeter said taking the change from his pocket and dropping it on top of the candy bars. Skeeter walked a few feet away from the newsstand and continued to read the paper as people rushed by him to go down the stairs to catch the subway to work. "With the race for mayor heating up, polls indicate that the majority of New Yorkers plan to vote for Amir Hada in November. Amir's wife recently came out of her coma. Reliable reports say Mrs. Hada doesn't remember her husband. It's widely known that Amir has been seeing Miss Tiffany Diamond, a secretary for Manhattan Party Planning. Many politicians have been known to have affairs after being elected to office. If the early polls are any indication, Mr. Hada might be the first official to be elected to office while involved in an extramarital affair. When asked if they felt it was appropriate for Mr. Hada to have a relationship with Miss Diamond, 58% of New Yorkers polled said they didn't see anything wrong with the relationship since his wife had been comatose when the relationship began. 15% of New Yorkers said they were against Mr. Hada being elected to office because of his relationship with Miss Diamond and 27 % of New Yorkers polled said they didn't have any opinion. If these early polls are any indication of what will happen in the polling booths in November, it seems that Miss Diamond may have moved from the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia to Gracie Mansion in November." "Excuse me…you got a little change?" a middle aged man said interrupting Skeeter's reading. "No," Skeeter said folding the newspaper and putting it under his arm. "Just a quarter or something," the man said. "Here," Skeeter said handing the man a dollar. "Thanks mister," the man said walking towards the newsstand. "You got any change," the man asked as people rushed past him towards the steps to the subway. Skeeter watched as people rushed down the stairs to the subway station on West 3rd Street. He glanced at the clock on the Dime Bank on West 4th. It was only 8 am, Tiffany probably hadn't left for work yet. He quickly picked up his pace towards West 4th Street and turned the corner to walk to MacDougal and Washington Square Park to Tiffany's apartment building. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
