Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday September 6^th 2001
"You have to think about your future my dear," Stanley said as he sat beside Tiffany on her sofa overlooking Washington Square Park.  He had brought Tiffany home from the party at her office during a heavy thunderstorm.  Her sister and his young lover Starlene had stayed hoping to be interviewed by a reporter later in the evening.
"I'm trying."
"No.  You're going about this all the wrong way.  You shouldn't be involved with a married man."
"I didn't know he was married though Stanley."
"He should have told you. Just because his wife was in a coma that doesn't mean he's free to chase women."
"I don't think Amir chases women," she said putting her empty wineglass on the coffee table in front of them.
"He chased you didn't he Tiffany?"
"He fell in love with me.  He didn't think his wife would ever come out of the coma."
"How does he say the two of you are going to handle your extra marital affair?"
"That's a pretty harsh term.  You don't sound like you really like Amir."
"I told you dear I do think very highly of Amir.  He's a fine businessman and he'll make a good mayor if he's elected."
"I just don't get the feeling you really like him though Stanley."
"I don't like what he's doing to you.  He isn't free and shouldn't have you waiting for him like this."
"He didn't tell me to wait for him," she said watching as he poured more wine in their glasses and placed the bottle back on the coffee table.
"I just think this whole affair will backfire on you in November when Amir loses the race. All of the publicity will die.  Clark won't be getting free media coverage over his secretary's illicit affair with the mayoral candidate and he'll fire you because he can't trust you not to get involved with his clients anymore."
"You sure paint a gloomy picture."
"I'm your friend," he said putting his arm on the back of the sofa and allowing his hand to rest on her bare shoulder as he admired the strapless party dress she was wearing.
"What do you think I should do then?"
"You should have become involved with me," he said smiling and rubbing her shoulder.
"It's too late for that you're involved with my sister Starlene and besides you're a client too, Stanley," she said smiling.
"True I am a client too, but I'm not married and I am eligible so Clark wouldn't be upset when this campaign heads south."
"But Starlene," she said referring to her younger sister.
"Starlene will move on my dear.  She's the smart one."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean as soon as Starlene gets all of the publicity and lands a big role in a movie or something she'll find another man."
"Really, that's what you think of your relationship with my sister."
"It's what I know."
"Why do you think that? Is it something she said?"
"No.  It's her age.  I've seen this happen before.  She's a beautiful ambitious young woman.  When she gets what she wants she'll move on to something else."
"Why do you stay with her then Stanley?"
"She needs me now.  I enjoy her company."
"Don't you feel like you're cheating yourself if that's all you think she's doing then?"
"No. I have my eyes wide open.  I know the right thing when I see it…" he said quickly pulling her closer and kissing her.
The door to the apartment opened and Starlene walked into the hallway.
