Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday August 21st 2001 Skeeter sat on his futon sofa in his Bleecker Street apartment with the tabloid newspaper on the coffee table in front of him. He took another sip of his beer and looked at the picture of his estranged wife kissing the wealthy candidate for mayor as her sundress had fallen open and dropped to her waist. He looked at the blurry spot the newspaper had used to cover Tiffany's bosom and he didn't have to imagine how much the editors had enjoyed the original picture. The picture of Amir wasn't close enough to get a good look at the handsome foreigner but he'd seen him many times on television. Skeeter drained the last sip from his beer and crushed the can before throwing it across the living room. He started to reach for the phone to call Tiffany's apartment when it began to ring. "Yeah," he answered picking up the phone as his eyes studied the veranda where Tiffany and Amir were seated in the newspaper photo. "I think you have a lot of explaining to do," Jan said. "What are you talking about?" "I guess you don't know?" "Know what Jan? What are you getting at?" he asked in his southern accent. "I ran into Elizabeth Ford at the bazaar this morning," she said. "How was she?" "She told me that you went to her apartment the day after the party at Gracie Mansion," Jan said. "She said what?" Skeeter asked surprised by the comment since he had lied each time Jan had asked him if he had talked to Elizabeth. "Skeeter, she told me you went there. I asked you several times and you told me you didn't have her phone number." "Well I didn't have her phone number," he said wondering how to handle this surprise. "So you showed up at her door?" "She invited me over." "So you went!" "Yeah. I mean she's a friend of your Father. She was his lover. It wasn't anything to it." "I think you better explain how this could happen Skeeter. You've totally humiliated me." "No. It's not like that Baby. Nothing went on with us," he lied remembering how quickly he had scored with the wealthy socialite on her balcony almost as soon as he got to her apartment that morning. After the sun got too hot on the balcony they had spent the entire day in her bedroom. "How do I know you're telling me the truth Skeeter?" "Cause Baby. Cause you're my woman," Skeeter said trying to sound seductive. "Skeeter I'm furious. This is just too much. I hate that woman. She makes a big deal of the fact she was my Father's lover and now you've been to her apartment too." "Look Baby. I only went there cause it seemed like the polite thing to do. I didn't want to tell you and upset you." "Upset me. Skeeter of course this has upset me. She enjoyed telling me that you came over the day after the party at Gracie Mansion." "Well, I only went there because I thought it was the right thing to do," he lied. "Why?" "I mean she knows your Daddy and you…." he stumbled. "Skeeter how do I know you aren't lying to me?" Jan asked. "I'll come over and prove it to you," he offered.. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
