Top left and center right pictures were taken on Strivers Row. These were the elegant homes of the middle class blacks who moved into Harlem in the 1920's. Still elegant today!
Top right picture you see Riverside Church with its 400 foot tower - containing the largest carillon in the world. Founded in 1850 this interdenominational and interracial church is not only a landmark but a community cornerstone.
Bottom right picture you see Abyssinian Baptist Church at 132 West 138th Street. This landmark church is New York's oldest black congregation, founded in 1808. These days it's undergoing a little face lift. Click here for the next page on today's photo tour of Harlem.
