Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday July 24th 2001 "Why did you leave my cigarette lighter at Tiffany's office?" Skeeter asked Jan as they sat side by side on his futon sofa in his apartment on Bleecker Street. "I must have forgotten it," she lied. "You've only smoked two cigarettes since I've known you Jan, and both times you'd been drinking." "What are you trying to say? That I meant to do it?" "Yeah I think so." "You heard Tiffany, she's upset that she'll probably lose her job. She's a bitter woman," Jan said still angry over Tiffany's nasty message they just heard her leave on his answering machine. "I think you left that lighter there because you wanted her mad at me." "I think you're changing the subject. I think you've been with Elizabeth Ford," Jan snapped. "I have not been with Elizabeth Ford," he lied. "Are you sure?" "Yes. I don't like you accusing me either." "Okay. If I catch you lying to me Skeeter that's it." "What? What's it?" "We'll be finished." "I'm not lying. What are you doing?" he asked watching her walk towards the answering machine and hit the button to replay the message. "Skeeter this is your wife Tiffany. Do you remember the cigarette lighter I gave you for Christmas when we lived in Lillard? I have it. Jan came by the office this morning and left it. I think you better quit smoking and give up women that are only using you. I thought you were seeing her all along Skeeter. This is why I've had trouble at my job. She's a mean natured back stabbing woman and she'll stab you too. I know you're seeing her to try and get her money. You'll never get it Skeeter; she's only using you to spite me. I hope you both get what you deserve and it's probably each other." They listened to the sound of the phone being slamming down and the machine rewinding. "Are you seeing me to try and get my money?" Jan asked pacing the dull hardwood floors in front of the futon. "Have I asked you for any money?" "No." "Then I'm not trying to get your money." "See what a mean wife you have?" "Yeah I see." "Divorce her." "I've been trying to." "Then do it." "Look Jan it ain't been the top thing on my list. I don't care anything about Tiffany and I ain't gettin' married anytime soon." "Did you enjoy going to the party at Gracie Mansion?" "Yeah, it was okay." "There are plenty of other parties you might be able to go to Skeeter if I could trust you. If you weren't married." "You can trust me. So what are you going to do, take me to your Daddy's for supper?" "Don't be smart Skeeter. You did get to meet my Father didn't you?" "Yeah." "You did want to go to the party at Gracie Mansion and meet the Senator and politicians didn't you?" "Yeah, but you made it really plain to me that I couldn't let on that I was your lover, only an acquaintance." "If you ever want to meet the real money in New York and be seen as more… then you have to stay away from women like Elizabeth Ford and you have to divorce Tiffany." CONTINUED TOMORROW.
