Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday July 11th 2001 The cab pulled over to the curb in front of Gracie Mansion. "Twenty dollars," the driver said hitting the meter on the dashboard of his taxicab. "I bet you make a lot of money driving these cars," Starlene said in her thick southern accent. "Yeah. It's a living," the driver said taking the money and watching in the rear view mirror as the voluptuous young blonde started to get out of his cab. "You going to see the Mayor?" he asked smiling as he admired her cleavage when she bent forward in the low cut summer dress to shut the door. "Yeah, how'd you know?" she asked smiling. "You're at Gracie Mansion. You friends with the mayor?" "Yeah." "Wow. A pretty woman like you friends with the mayor," he said raising his eyebrows playfully. "It's not like that though….I'm Stanley Morgan's girlfriend," she said reaching through the window of the car to hand the driver a tip. "You're Starlene?" "Yeah! You've heard of me?" "Yeah. I saw your picture on TV. Have fun at the mansion Starlene," he said. "Thanks!" she said turning to walk towards the guard's gate with a new sense of pride. An ordinary person had actually seen her on TV. Her heart raced with excitement when she thought how close she might be to landing a movie role if an ordinary person knew who she was now. The guard in the driveway of Gracie Mansion saw her coming towards the window of the guardhouse and he looked back down at the magazine he was reading. Starlene tapped on the window of the air-conditioned guardhouse. She watched as the guard looked up expressionless. "Yes," the guard said. "I'm here to see Stanley Morgan," Starlene said in her thick southern accent. "This is Gracie Mansion. The Mayor lives here," he said. "Well dah… of course the Mayor lives here," Starlene said annoyed at the nice looking young guard. "I thought maybe you didn't know where you were going," he said. "Yes I know where I'm going. I want to see Stanley Morgan. I know he's in there with the Mayor." Starlene said. A van turned into the driveway and sped up the incline towards the guard's house. Starlene noticed that the van had call letters of a local television station on the side. The driver of the van opened his window when it approached the guardhouse looking at Starlene as she stood in front of the guard. "Here to tape," the driver of the van said to the guard flashing his press ID. "You know the story, this is it," the guard said pointing back to the entrance of the driveway. "Okay," the driver said backing the van up and turning it around. "That's a TV camera truck isn't it?" Starlene asked the guard. "Yeah," the guard said looking back down at his magazine. "I really need to see Stanley. I need to go in. Could you open the gate for me?" she asked sweetly wiping the sweat from her forehead in the humidity of the hot day. "Nope." "What do you mean nope?" "No TV crews or women allowed in," the guard said. "We'll see about that," Starlene said giving the young guard a nasty look. "Probably gay," she said under her breath as she turned to leave the guard's window. She quickly walked down the driveway towards the van that was parked on the street in front of the entrance to Gracie Mansion. She saw a local TV reporter and a cameraman starting to tape on the street outside the entrance to the mansion. She quickly picked up her step hoping to find out what news event they were taping. "Excuse me! Do you know how I could get into the mansion?" Starlene called out. "Isn't that Starlene?" the reporter said to the cameraman as they watched Starlene's hip sway in the short white summer dress as she walked down the incline of the driveway in her high heels.
