Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday May 24th 2001 "Clark, I didn't expect to see you here this afternoon," Stanley Morgan said. He watched from his seat on the sofa next to Clark's secretary Tiffany as the young businessman walked into the living room where he operated his party planning business near Washington Square Park. "My appointment upstate was canceled by the time I got to the Upper West Side," Clark said walking towards the sofa where the older client was seated very close to his secretary Tiffany. "Tiffany and I were just chatting," Stanley said glancing towards Tiffany and noticing her nervous expression. "Did Tiffany offer to get you something to drink?" "We hadn't gotten that far." "Oh did I interrupt?" Clark asked noticing that Stanley jerked his hand from Tiffany's shoulder. He wondered if perhaps the older man was having a private conversation with her. "We were talking about Starlene," Stanley said. "The two of you are getting a lot of press lately," Clark said taking a seat in the chair across from the two of them. "Yeah. Tiffany's a little concerned about you being upset with her over her sister." "Oh Stanley…" Tiffany said trying to shrug off his remark. "I'm glad you brought this up Stanley. It does put me in a awkward position," Clark admitted thinking about how angry Stanley's daughter Jan had been when she saw the picture of her Father in the newspaper with Tiffany's nineteen year old sister. "Well, let's get this all out in the open now," Stanley said taking his gold lighter from his pocket and lighting his cigar. "Jan isn't too happy about this Stanley," Clark said watching Tiffany nervously cross her legs and pick a piece of lint from her short skirt as she sat beside the older man. "Oh yes. I'm well aware of the fact that Jan isn't happy about me being seen with Starlene." "Well, Jan wants me fired," Tiffany said glancing towards Clark. "And Jan wants me to marry one of the women from the Park Avenue Tea Society too," he said taking a puff from his cigar. "I guess you can see how this puts me into a spot," Clark said taking an ashtray from the table beside him and placing it on the coffee table in front of Stanley. "So this is uncomfortable for you?" "Well, Jan does come by here angry sometimes. It can be difficult and uncomfortable for all of us," Clark admitted relieved that facts were more out in the open now. The cell phone rang in Stanley's briefcase and he bent forward opening his briefcase and taking out the ringing phone. "Yeah," he said into the phone. "Give him this number now. I'll be here for a few minutes," Stanley said hanging up the phone. "Excuse me please. I'm going to get another call," he said glancing towards Tiffany and Clark as the phone rang again. "Good evening! A pleasure to hear from you," the older man said glancing towards Clark and motioning as if he were drinking from a glass. Clark promptly reached across the coffee table and picked up a decanter and poured his most influential client a glass of brandy and handed it to him. "That sounds like a good idea to me. Did you talk to him about it?" Stanley asked as he held the cell phone with one hand and drank his brandy with the other. "I can arrange the entire thing. This isn't a problem," he said motioning for Clark to refill his glass. "Consider it a done deal. My best to your kids, enjoy your weekend," Stanley said closing his cell phone and putting it in his briefcase. He picked up his second glass of brandy and took a quick drink. "Now where were we? You said my relationship and Jan are making you uncomfortable," Stanley said placing his empty glass on the table. "Well…. Yeah," Clark said. "That was the Mayor and he wants to throw a party at Gracie Mansion for Amir. Maybe I should get another party planning service to handle this," Stanley said picking up his briefcase as he stood to leave. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE PHOTOS BELOW.
