Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday April 5th 2001 Skeeter glanced in the closet of his bedroom and saw that Cynthia had taken the few clothes that she normally left there. He glanced towards the table beside the bed and saw the piece of paper that she had left him with the name of a law firm to call. He crumpled up the paper and threw it into the trashcan by the door as he walked back into the living room. The dreams of suing Jan's Father for money would have to wait now. Without Cynthia's family's law practice it would be too involved he thought. He'd miss the fiery red head, she'd been the coolest woman he'd ever known. He thought about their goodbye this morning as he glanced back at the bed-sheets pulled off the mattress and scattered about the bed and floor. She'd be back. They all come back, he thought. The ringing of the phone in the living room interrupted his thoughts. He quickly picked up his step as he walked towards the table to answer the phone. "Yeah," he said. "Skeeter. I've tried calling several times. Where have you been?" Jan asked. "I've been here. I knocked the phone off the hook by accident. What's up?" he asked surprised to hear from her so soon after their heated argument. "That's what I called to ask you. I think we need to talk Skeeter." "I thought we'd said everything there was to say," he said still angry that she had probably been the reason he didn't get his job contract in the meeting today with his boss and her friend. "How did your meeting go with Bob?" she asked wondering how upset he was over not getting his contract. She had told Bob to keep him on probation. "Great. Just great," he lied. "Look I talked to Bob after your meeting with him. I know he didn't give you your contract." "I guess you're happy about that?" he snapped. "Skeeter I just want the respect that's due me. It really upset me that you'd bring that red head into the club and embarrass me like that the other night." "I told you she doesn't mean anything to me. You're the one that doesn't want anyone to know that you've been with me so what difference should it have made to you?" "I don't like it Skeeter. If you want to be with me then I don't want you seeing her anymore," Jan said remembering how lean and firm Cynthia's legs were in the tight jeans as she danced with Skeeter at the China Room Club the other night. "How can you tell me what to do when you can't be seen in public with me?" he snapped. "Maybe it won't always be this way." "What does that mean. You going to bring me to your Daddy's for dinner now?" he asked sarcastically knowing her wealthy father would never want his socialite daughter involved with someone of his standing. "I just mean. Well…one day Father will be so old, it will be different. You know what I mean," she stumbled. "You missing me aren't you?" he asked knowingly. "Don't you miss me?" she asked. "Sure Baby," he said glancing towards the bedroom and the sheets thrown around the bed after his goodbye with Cynthia. "Then we should make things work for us Skeeter. It's not too much for me to ask you to keep our relationship private. It's fair that I don't want you with other women." "What about that Steve you were with at the party?" "There's nothing to him Skeeter. He's getting married soon. That was only for publicity." "Sure?" "Yeah. Besides we have a lot in common Skeeter." "What's that?" "Tiffany," she said. "What do you mean?" "She was on the news again Skeeter. Didn't you see?" she asked. "No. What?" "I taped it. Come on over and I'll show you," she said taking a bottle of wine from the cabinet.
