Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday March 29th 2001 "I come to tell you this before you see on news," Amir said in his broken English as he sat beside Tiffany on the sofa of her apartment overlooking Washington Square Park where she was living with her younger sister Starlene. "What? It sounds like I better brace myself. Is it Celinda again?" she asked thinking that perhaps he would be seen on TV again tonight with the famous fashion model. "No. She go back to Europe yesterday," he said taking her hand into his and holding it tightly. "Go ahead and tell me. Everyone's making the news today," Tiffany said smiling as she thought about her younger sister Starlene's picture that had been on the front page of today's Manhattan Daily News. Starlene had been photographed at Amir's party at the Waldorf standing between the Mayor and Stanley Morgan. "I see Starlene on newspaper," he said laughing. "Yeah, she's at the Mayor's office now. I don't know what she's doing there, but she called me at work all excited that she had an appointment to see the Mayor," Tiffany said shaking her head in disbelief. "I tell you this work for Starlene. Everything work," he said rubbing her hand. "What is it Amir. What have you got to tell me?" she asked seeing the apprehension on his handsome face. "My wife come to this country," he said watching her closely. "What? I thought she was in a coma!" she said shocked at his news. "Yes, she still how you say…comatose. I bring her to hospital here for care." "Why? Why now? Why Amir?" Tiffany asked pulling her hand from his hand. "Better doctors in University hospitals here in states." "You've already talked to the hospitals here?" "Yes. This perhaps only chance for her to come from coma." "I don't know what to say. I mean I guess I should wish your wife well. On the other hand what will happen to us if she does come out of the coma?" Tiffany asked feeling the tears swell up in her eyes. "If there be something I do to save life, you think I do this? No?" he asked. "Yes. I think you should. I just don't know what my role in your life will be after this. I mean we couldn't tell anyone that we were seeing each other before because of my job. Now it'll only be worse." "Maybe it be better," he said taking her hand and bringing it to his lips. "If she doesn't come out of the coma…you mean?" "Then we decide for future together, perhaps." "Everyone will know you have a wife here. I'll know she's only a few blocks away in the hospital… and I'm with her husband," she said wiping the tears from her cheeks. "They leave me no choice. If I run for office and leave her in hospital in my country… This ruin chance for office," he said remembering the words of his political advisors. "When is she coming?" "Plane arrive tomorrow," he said. "What…. Tomorrow?" "Yes. This is why I tell you now. News reporter learn of this and I want for you to know," he said. "Tiffany!" Starlene said opening the front door of the apartment and slamming it behind her. "In here with Amir, Starlene. How did it go with the Mayor today?" Tiffany asked wiping the tears from her cheeks. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE PHOTOS BELOW.
