Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday March 27th 2001 Cynthia hung up the phone satisfied that she'd canceled her gig for this weekend in the rock and roll club in Hoboken. She glanced in the mirror and smiled at her reflection in the skintight leather pants. Her thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of the phone on the table near the window of her apartment overlooking Tompkins Square Park. She quickly walked towards the ringing phone. "Ciao!" she answered. "Cynthia. I'm glad you're home. I need to talk to you soon," Skeeter said in a hushed voice from his office at the lingerie company in the Manhattan Gold International Office complex. "Yeah. What's up?" she asked. "It's about Jan. She just came by the office. She's in my bosses office now talking with him and we had a big fight," he said in his slow southern accent. "Oh really?" "Yeah. I told her that I would sue her Father and tell everybody I've been seeing her," he said still out of breath from his confrontation with his wealthy secret lover Jan a few minutes ago. "What did she say?" "She's mad. I told her that your family owns Steinburg, Williams and Weinstein," he said referring to the high powered law firm Cynthia's family owned. "Oh. And?" "She's meeting with her friend and my boss Bob Alexander right now. I think she's going to get me fired. But it's working just like we planned," he said needing her reassurance. "Well…" she said hesitantly. "What's the matter Baby? I thought you'd be excited that I finally told her what's what. I'm in the driver's seat now. We'll be counting her old man's money in no time," he said referring to Jan's wealthy Father. They had talked a few times that her family's law firm could possibly sue the wealthy Stanley Morgan for a lot of money. If the old man didn't want the publicity, then he would simply have to pay them off. "You should have talked to me about this first Skeeter," Cynthia said glancing towards the mirror and turning from side to side admiring her firm body in the skintight pants. "What the hell are you talkin' 'bout Baby? We did talk about this. What's there to discuss?" he said noticing that his hands were shaking. He heard Bob's door open down the hall and he thought he heard Jan's voice in the distance. "I don't think I want to get involved after all," Cynthia said. "What do you mean?" he snapped. "Look things have changed. I got some great news this morning. I can't have this kind of thing hanging over me Skeeter. Not now." She said wondering if she should tell him of her good fortune. "How can you say that? I told her what we agreed on. I might lose my job this morning because I trusted you. What the hell are you talking about? You can't change your story now," he said trying to hold his voice down. "I'm sorry Skeeter. I'm really sorry. I was going to call you later today and tell you." "Tell me what?" "I got a call from my agent! It's great news!" she said glancing in the mirror envisioning herself in gold-sequined jeans on stage at Madison Square Garden. "What?" "My agent just signed me to do a CD and go on the road. This is it! I'm on my way Skeeter." "Well that's just great. What am I supposed to do now?" he snapped without enthusiasm for her success. "I don't know. I'm really sorry. I've been advised to appear unattached and single…. That'll sell more CD's. I can't afford to be involved with this now." "Great. Just great. You lead me to believe that your family's law firm will sue the old man and then you drop me for some little record deal." "It's no little deal Skeeter! I'll be touring Europe too. They've assured me I'll be as booked as Brittany Spears." Skeeter heard a knock on his office door and his boss Bob opened the door and stuck his head in Skeeter's office. "I need to talk to you Skeeter," Bob said frowning. "I'll be right there," Skeeter said holding his hand over the phone nodding towards his boss. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE PHOTOS BELOW.
