Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday February 26th 2001 Amir watched Tiffany wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes with her hand. The large diamond and sapphire ring that he had given her for Christmas sparkled in the candlelight of the small table in the restaurant in Little Italy. "This busy time pass. Soon we take holiday together," he suggested in his broken English. "A trip together. How? Wouldn't you be worried that the press might see us together?" she said still unconvinced of his devotion. "The press of more concern to you than me," he said hoping to gently remind her that her job was a major reason their romance was a secret. The other problem was her estranged husband Skeeter, a thought that still annoyed him. "Why didn't you mention this Celinda woman to me before Amir?" she said taking another sip of her wine. Seeing the reports on television before he had mentioned her had been the start of her jealousy and insecurity of the internationally famous designer. "She only fashion designer. She sign lease for store in spa. How you say…this all to it," he said touching her hand. "I guess it was seeing the two of you together on television and the gossip columnist saying you were a pair, it upset me. It really upset me more because you hadn't called in two days," she said remembering how long the days had been without him. "We talk of this before. You know the press they say these things for story. They make story for anything and everything. I want to call very much while you work, but worry this cause problem for you. I stay so busy with these guest in evening. If I distress you, I beg you forgive me", he said bringing her hand to his lips and kissing it gently. "I'm sorry Amir. I shouldn't have been so upset. I guess that was very childish of me. I should trust you more. I've just had bad experiences I suppose. Then there's Starlene to worry about," she said shaking her head. "Your sister okay? No?" "Yes, she's okay. She just hasn't gotten a job yet. It really bothers me. I don't think she's looking very hard either." "I tell you I find position in spa for her," he said rubbing her fingers seductively. "I don't know about that. I appreciate it. But I don't want to cause you any problems with any of your clients. I think it would be better if she found something on her own." "She looks for position?" "I don't think she's really looking much. I've left advertisements for ticket sales clerks at theaters and she never calls. She has experience in Georgia doing that; she could get one of those jobs. It's like she's decided that since she moved to New York, she's going to become this famous star or something. Meeting Laney didn't really help either," she said smiling as she thought about her friend Laney the model for Playbody. "Maybe she become famous star", Amir said smiling as the waiter handed him a receipt for their dinner check. "I just wish she'd get a day job until she gets discovered," Tiffany said laughing as they walked towards the front door. Amir helped Tiffany with her coat and they walked out into the cold evening air. Amir's limo driver opened the door and they slid inside the long white car. The car started to pull out into the traffic on Mulberry Street. "Stanley's party is tomorrow night," Tiffany said glancing towards her lover. "Yes, this party I be glad to have over." "Why? I'll be there," she said touching his hand and smiling. "Yes, but I must entertain fashion designers that move in spa," he said trying to hold her hand before she quickly withdrew it from his.
