"Skeeter she says it doesn't suit for you to come over," Starlene said as she hung up the phone in Skeeter's apartment on Bleecker Street after speaking to his estranged wife and her older sister Tiffany.
"That figures.  She doesn't want me there 'cause her rich boyfriend might come in," he said in his slow southern accent annoyed that she wouldn't let him come over.
"No I don't think it's that.  She's in a terrible mood."
"What the hell's wrong with her," he asked taking a seat on the futon sofa and watching his young sister-in-law as she stood beside the window.
"They aren't getting along that well I don't think," she said referring to her sister's wealthy lover Amir.
"Oh really."
"Don't tell her I told you though."
"Of course not.  I love your sister, Starlene."
"That's so sweet Skeeter.  I don't know why the two of you can't get back together again then."
"A lot's happened between us.  Mainly that rich foreigner.  Have you met him?"
"Yeah".
"What do you think of him?"
"Actually he's really nice Skeeter."
"Lot of money too, huh?"
"Yeah".
"She'll never come back to me if she's got herself a man with that kind of money."
"Yeah, but he's married you know?"
"A sick wife in a coma back on his island or something like that?"
"Yeah so he can't really get a divorce.  That eats at Tiffany too, 'cause she really wants to be married."
"She is married... to me."
"I know Skeeter.  Maybe that's why she isn't in a hurry to get a divorce."
"I'm not giving her one anytime soon anyway.  Not as long as he's in the picture.  That's exactly what she wants.  Enough about me and Tiffany, what's going on with you Starlene?"
"I'm just looking for a job."
"Anything on the horizon?"
"I hope to get some modeling, maybe a job with Playbody."
"Really", he asked shocked that a girl he remembered as a child could already be old enough to model for a men's magazine.  He quickly took another look at her voluptuous figure and realized she certainly had the qualifications.
"Yeah.  I think this friend of mine is going to help me out."
"You mean Laney?"
"You know Laney?"
"Met her at a party."
"No actually she's moved to California.  It's Stanley Morgan that will probably help me," she said.
"Stanley Morgan?" he asked realizing that his lover Jan's Father seemed to know all of the women in his life.
"You know him too?" she asked wondering if Jan had introduced him to her Father.
"No.  I've never met him, but I've heard about him plenty.  He's a wealthy old dude Starlene."
"Yeah I know.  Lucky for me.  I think he really likes me too."
"You mean like?" he asked looking over her well rounded hips in the tight jeans.
"Yeah", she laughed tossing her long blonde hair from her eyes and smiling broadly.
"Does he know Tiffany?"
"Of course he knows Tiffany."
"How well?" he asked remembering the conversation he had with Jan. Stanley's daughter Jan had inferred that her Father liked a woman like Tiffany around at his parties to entertain his wealthy political friends.
