Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday February 12^th 2001
Starlene rubbed her sleepy eyes, picked up the newspaper and note that her older sister Tiffany had left on the dining room table before leaving for work this morning.
"Starlene, here a couple of theaters that are looking for ticket sales clerks.  Both theaters are close by and you could walk to work.  With your experience at the Lillard Main Street Cinema you could probably get one of these jobs.  Good luck!  Call me at work and let me know what they say!  Love, Tiffany".
She glanced at the jobs and looked at the clock on the television.  It was already 11 am.  It was late to call and go to interviews today, she thought. 
She quickly thought about Laney's going away party last night.  She knew Stanley's model girlfriend would be in California by now and probably busy posing for her shots in Playbody Magazine and would soon be a movie star as well.  She wondered if Stanley and Laney were serious about helping her get started in modeling too.  She wondered what Laney would think if she had known that Stanley rubbed her legs under the tablecloth as she sat beside him at the party last night.  They had an unusual relationship she thought.  He helped her get the job with Playbody, got her the auditions and an apartment in California and didn't seem to mind her leaving him here in New York.  Maybe it was because he was an old man, she thought. The ringing of the telephone interrupted her thoughts.  She threw the newspaper on the table and walked to the ringing phone.
"Hello", she answered.
"Hi Starlene, its Stanley.  Do you have a headache this morning?"  Stanley asked having ordering her martinis at the going away party last night.
"Not too bad, I remembered to take aspirins before I went to bed," Starlene said in her southern accent surprised the older man had called her at her sister's apartment.
"What are you doing today?" he asked.
"Tiffany left me a couple advertisements for jobs that she thinks I should call.  I don't know though."
"I'll come over."
"Come over?" she laughed.
"Yeah.  We'll get to know each other a little better."
"What would Laney think of that?"
"Laney's gone now."
"Yeah, but she's your girlfriend, right?"
"I've been with Laney a long time.  Laney's in California.  She doesn't have to know."
"I just got up.  I'm not even dressed yet."
"Don't bother.  I'll pick up some breakfast and bring it over."
"Well…I don't know."
"You like me don't you?"
"Sure".
"Then why not?"
"What if Tiffany came home?"
"Well, Tiffany's at work isn't she?"
"Yeah, but she works not even a block from here," she said glancing out of the apartment  window overlooking Washington Square Park.
"She won't come home."
"There's no way to know for sure."
"Want me to be sure she won't come home?"
"How could you do that?"
"I'll call her boss, Clark and be sure she's busy for the rest of the day."
"You could do that?"
"I can do anything, my dear."
"Wow".
"Anything.  Laney's got everything she wants now doesn't she?"
"Yeah".
"You could too."
