Tuesday January 16th 2001 "I'm here to try out for a role in a movie," Starlene said to the receptionist at the office on 44th Street at Times Square. "How did you hear about this office"? The receptionist asked. "I heard about you from a friend of mine," Starlene said in her southern accent. "We cast commercials here." "I could do a commercial then, that'll be fine." "You have to have an appointment to see a casting agent Miss." "Well, could I make an appointment? I've come all the way over here so I wish someone could see me now." "Where did you come from?" the receptionist asked noticing the thick southern accent. "Over at Washington Square Park," Starlene said weary from the subway ride and wondering if she would be able to find her way back home. "You're not from New York." "No. I live here now though. I mean I moved here from Georgia." "We don't have any parts for a southerner right now." "Can't I try for one of the commercials?" "Look that isn't the way it's done. You send your resume and pictures and we call you if we have a casting call for a part that might be suitable for you," the receptionist said eyeing Starlene's short skirt and high heels. "How many pictures do you want?" "Send headshots." "Excuse me Brigitte, do I have any messages?" a man in jeans and a sweater asked as he stopped at the front desk of the agency. "Here", the receptionist said handing him a stack of pink papers. "Well who should I send these pictures too?" Starlene asked noticing that the man had started to look through the messages as he stood beside her at the receptionist's desk. "Just mail them to this address," the receptionist said handing Starlene a card with the agencies name and address on it. "What kind of work are you looking for?" the man asked noticing Starlene's short skirt and fish net stockings. "Anything. I just moved here from Georgia and I want to model or do some acting." "Georgia. I thought I heard a southern accent," he said smiling. "You know of anything", she asked tossing her long hair back with one hand as she smiled at him. "Come in and we'll talk", he said starting to walk down the hallway towards his office. "Paul you have a three o'clock," the receptionist said irritated with Starlene. "She can wait a few minutes," he said motioning for Starlene to go into his office. Starlene walked into the office and noticed pictures of young women with their names on them hanging all over the walls. She glanced towards the window and saw flashing neon signs from Broadway and Times Square. Her heart started to race with excitement. She wondered if this would be 'it' for her. She took a seat. Paul walked to his desk taking a seat and flipped through his messages before putting them on the desk. "So you want to be a movie star. What's your name?" he asked watching her cross her legs in the short skirt and fish net stockings. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE PHOTOS BELOW.
