It began back in 1857 when a labor force of 3,000 mostly unemployed Irish workers and 400 horses cleared the 840 acres now called Central Park. Back then they probably didn't need the space to enjoy nature as much as we do today. All New Yorkers will tell you that Central Park is absolutely beautiful and a much needed break from city living.
