Friday October 6th, 2000 "No Clark, Skeeter doesn't call me that often. I can't believe he called me here twice this afternoon. It won't happen again," Tiffany said nervously glancing at the phone, praying he wouldn't call again. Her anger over suspecting that Jan had left Clark's office a few minutes earlier to go to her estranged husband's apartment was quickly fading compared to the fear of losing her job. She watched anxiously as Clark paced back and forth in front of her desk. "You can't control what Skeeter does though, can you Tiffany?" Clark asked. He was angrier about the fact she had just told him that she was living in a huge apartment overlooking the park. He couldn't afford such an apartment and he was suspicious how she could on the salary he paid her. "No". "You couldn't control it when Skeeter became involved in the shooting of Amir's bodyguard, could you?" "No. But he was cleared of those charges. You read it in the newspaper yourself, Clark," she said worried where this conversation was going. "Yes and I also read that he had hired that big law firm to handle future problems. Maybe he'll sue Amir," Clark said feeling his fears reaffirmed as he spoke. "I don't think he will," Tiffany said trying to sound more positive than she felt. "Tiffany you don't know that though, do you?" "No, how could I?" "You can't. This is just unfair to you isn't it?" "Yeah", she answered weakly. "You can't get your work done because your husband bothers you all day at work. His name has been in the papers linked to the shooting of one of my client's bodyguard. He took your apartment and you have to look for another one. He called you angry twice today while I was here at the office. You have a lot on your mind don't you?" "Yes. I guess I do," she confessed. "Maybe it would be better if you took off a while and got your life together," Clark said turning to look out of the front window so that he could avoid her eyes. "Oh no. I can handle everything just fine," Tiffany said hearing her voice crack with fear. "I think you need to concentrate on getting your life together then maybe you could do a better job," he said. "What about the party that's coming up for the opening of Amir's spa?" she asked immediately regretting that she had mentioned Amir's name. "Jan and I can handle the party for Amir. Besides the rumors of you being linked to Amir just won't go away," he said turning to watch her face. "Are you firing me Clark?" "Let's call it a leave of absence and then we'll see how things go," he said dreading the thought of interviewing applicants again. "But I can't afford not to work", she said as the tears started to roll down her cheeks. "Feel free to look around for something else then. I totally understand," he said. "I want this job Clark. I love my job. This isn't my fault." "Maybe once the spa opens then we'll reassess everything." "You mean I won't be invited to the opening of the spa?" "I think it's better if you aren't there Tiffany. There's just been too much gossip. We need to let things cool down a while. You'll have time to look around and get another apartment too." "How am I going to get another apartment if I don't have a job?" she said sniffling and reaching for the box of Kleenex on her desk. "Maybe your rich friend that helped you get the apartment you're in now could help you out," he said turning and starting towards the stairs to go up to his office. "When is this effective Clark?" she asked as she watched him walking quickly towards the staircase. "Today's Friday. I'll bring you your check and you can clean out your desk now," he said as he started up the stairs to get the check that he and Jan had made out earlier today. CONTINUED MONDAY. MORE PHOTOS BELOW.
