Tuesday October 3rd, 2000 Tiffany pressed the phone to her ear straining to hear the voice of the woman who just entered her estranged husband's apartment on Bleecker Street. If her suspicions were right, it might be Jan Morgan. Jan had used the phone by Tiffany's desk this afternoon right before she left to go meet her 'dinner date'. She overheard Jan on the phone saying she 'loved him calling her Baby.' Skeeter was the only man she knew that called all the women he slept with Baby. A few days ago she walked by Skeeter's apartment and thought she saw Jan in the bedroom window. She listened closely and heard the quiet sounds of a woman saying something and then laughing. She heard Skeeter's footsteps as he walked back to the phone and picked it up. "I've got to go," he said into the phone in his slow southern accent. "Who's there Skeeter?" "A secretary dropped off some papers for my meeting tonight," he lied watching Jan take of her jacket and toss it over his futon sofa. "The secretary comes into your apartment?" Tiffany asked not believing a word he had just said. "Yeah. Wouldn't you do that for your boss?" he asked smiling as Jan stretched out on the futon and waved for him to come to her. "Yeah, I guess if he asked me," she confessed. "You work out of your bosses townhouse Tiffany. Why would it be so strange for me to have a secretary deliver papers?" he said proud of himself. He glanced over as Jan pretended to write one point for him in the air. "I wanted to stop by and see you this afternoon Skeeter"; she persisted trying to control her mounting anger. "I'm going out to a meeting. What's wrong with you? You and your boyfriend break up?" Tiffany glanced towards the window and saw Clark coming towards the front door. "Okay, I've got to run", she said hanging up the phone.
"What did she want?" Jan said sitting up on the futon and smiling at him. "She hasn't given up on us I guess", Skeeter lied. "Isn't she still at work?" Jan asked knowing that Tiffany was stuck there until Clark came back from his appointment. "Yeah, I guess. She said she had to go, so I guess her boss just came back in," Skeeter said. "I just left her office. She's not having a very good day," Jan said watching his face closely. "What's the matter? Too many parties to plan?" "Her boss isn't very happy with her job performance," Jan said examining her long manicured nails as she spoke. "She going to get fired or something?" "Maybe", "What's she done wrong?" "Men. She can't keep her eyes off the clients," Jan said looking up for his reaction. "Did he tell you that 's the reason he might fire her?" "Yes, he's warned her many times." Skeeter started to walk back to the phone. "What are you doing?" Jan asked noticing his face was red with anger. "I'm not taking this," he said picking up the phone and starting to dial.
