Friday September 15th, 2000 Tiffany knew she couldn't live in a hotel any longer. She had looked for weeks for an apartment and there was nothing available that she could afford. There wouldn't be any way for the media or anyone else to know if she moved into her wealthy lover's apartment at Washington Square Park. As she walked towards the entrance to the apartment building at Washington Square, the doorman quickly walked over and pushed open the door for her. "Good evening," he said. "I'm here to look at the apartment that belongs to Amir Hada." "Oh yes. Don Adams dropped the key by for you a few minutes ago. Do you know where the apartment is?" the doorman asked. "Yes. I was there earlier today. Thanks," she said smiling as she took the key from his hand and walked towards the elevator. Tiffany touched the button for the seventh floor and the door opened. She stepped onto the waiting elevator and as the door closed she noticed that the doorman was watching her intently. As the door opened into the lobby on the seventh floor she noticed the flowers on the table beneath the heavy large mirror. She wondered how many apartments her lover owned in New York and if they were all furnished so elegantly. She put the key in the front door to the apartment and pushed the door open. In the dark she felt for the light switch beside the door. Her hands fumbled along the wall and finally light filled the entrance to the large apartment. She glanced down the hallway at the shiny hardwood floors as she closed and locked the door behind her. She quickly walked into the living room and turned on the track lights. She noticed the candles on the fireplace. Her heart raced with excitement over the possibility of this becoming her new apartment and spending her first night alone with Amir. She picked up a match from the mantle and lit the candles. She glanced at her reflection in the glimmer of the candlelight of the mirror. She would take a quick shower and freshen up before Amir arrived tonight. She couldn't help but wonder how it would feel to have this beautiful apartment all to herself. She walked over to the window and looked down at Washington Square Park below. This would be a wonderful place to live she thought. She worked right around the corner. She could be at work within two minutes every morning. From the window she noticed that she could see Amir's Fifth Avenue apartment building beyond the arches of the park. The only thing wrong was that Skeeter lived near by on Bleecker, but he would have no way of knowing where she lived. She would never have to worry about anyone showing up at her door unannounced because there were doorman twenty-four hours a day. She knew she would feel safe. The building was inhabited by mostly faculty of NYU and some tenants. It was lucky for her that Amir owned such a nice place and she could move in immediately. Her heart raced when she thought of possibly bringing her clothes from the hotel tonight! She might move in. She probably should move in. There was so much room in the apartment she could even invite her sister Starlene to come visit. This was just perfect she thought. She glanced at the clock on the mantle and decided to take a leisurely shower. She walked down the hallway to the guest bathroom and opened the door. Just as she had expected there were plenty of towels and guest soaps in the bathroom. A nice warm shower before Amir arrived would make this a perfect first evening in her new apartment. She quickly undressed, turned on the water and stepped into the warm shower. She thought she heard a doorbell ringing over the sound of the water. She told herself this was her imagination, Amir wasn't expected until later. Once again she thought she heard the sound of a doorbell. She turned off the water and listened. The doorbell clearly sounded again. She smiled to herself thinking that Amir was certainly eager to be with her tonight. She remembered he didn't have a key to the apartment. She grabbed a towel and quickly dried off. The buzzer sounded again as if he had permanently placed his finger on the button. She almost laughed out loud thinking about Amir's eagerness. She raced towards the living room. She caught a quick look of her reflection in the mirror in the hallway. Her damp hair was matted down close to her head. She took one hand and tried to fluff her hair. The doorbell rang again. She dropped her towel to the floor and shook her head running both hands through her damp hair to give it more body. The doorbell sounded again. She glanced at her towel on the floor and quickly decided this was a moment to remember. She left the towel on the floor and grabbed the doorknob. "Okay, Okay, I'm ready for you Amir!" she said pushing the door open. Her eyes darted nervously toward the floor in search of her towel; shocked that the man standing in the doorway wasn't Amir.
